James raised an eyebrow. ‘You’re saying you were asleep for a year?’
-
"Apparently-" Ed said, rubbing his temples together. "I mean, I am a heavy sleeper, so I'm not surprised- Happens quite a bit, honestly," he mumbled, chuckling softly. He groaned, rubbing his face with his hands.
-
‘The war didn’t wake you?’ James frowned. ‘How are you not dead? Nobody can live without water and food for over a year, and you would’ve overheated in that casket..’
-
"Like I said, I'm a heavy sleeper," Ed spoke, chuckling softly as he opened up a door. "Ah, yes, the guest room- it's uhm, a little dusty, but it's still livable," he added, chuckling softly as the lights flickered on seemingly by themselves.
-
James looked around and coughed into his arm. He was still suspicious, and was pretty certain he would’ve suffocated in a casket with no holes, but didn’t mention it. ‘I-It’ll be great for now. Thank you.’
-
"Well, I'll let you get settled in, I'll go see if there's any food around here," Ed said with a chuckle, backing out of the room. He turned and walked off, exhaling softly as he tried to remember how long he'd actually been out.
-
‘Okay,’ James said quietly. He set his backpack down on the bed and rummaged through it. He had another change of clothes, a can of beans, a small notebook, pen and flask. He also had his soldier uniform, but it was torn up and dirty.
-
Ed hummed softly as he walked into the kitchen, coughing a little from the dust he stirred up. Seriously, what was I doing before- He paused and let out a quiet gasp before groaning softly, covering his face with his hands. "f---, now I remember," he mumbled, crouching down and rubbing his face.
-
James inspected the blanket and wrinkled his nose. He felt the fabric, and his hand came back dusty. He figured he’d sleep on the floor tonight. He looked around. The room seemed very old fashioned, as if he’d travelled back in time. He put his backpack on the nightstand.
-
Ed exhaled softly and stood back up, shaking his head and trying to forget what he just remembered. I can't believe I forgot about her, he mumbled, trying to will his hands to stop shaking as he went to search through the cupboards.
-
James sat down on the floor, going through his notebook. He was pretty tired, and leaned against the wall. He hoped Ed would come back soon with food. Preferable not mouldy food. He had a coughing fit into his arm.
-
Ed came back upstairs to the guest room, sighing softly. "Well, there's not much, and whatever food I did have is all spoiled," he said as he looked over at James, crossing his arms over his chest.
-
James looked up. ‘Oh. That’s okay,’ he said, crossing his legs. ‘M-May I ask how you’re, uh, still alive? If it’s been over a year, you should be dead..’
-
"It's uh, been quite a bit longer than just a year," Ed replied with an awkward chuckle, rubbing the back of his neck. "As for how I've lived for that long- Well, uhm," he paused, clearing his throat. "There's- there's really no easy way to say this, but- I'm a vampire."
-
James just stared at him for a moment. He chuckled nervously. ‘Very funny. I-I didn’t have to ask if you didn’t want me to-‘
