“I thought it was, but then it wasn’t,” Connor muttered with a sigh, rubbing his face with his hand.

“Yeah, he’s been moody since the accident, obviously,” Evan’s dad said quietly. “But- don’t- he needs somebody to talk to. Or something. Anything. Besides the radio.”

Connor sighed, nodding. “I know, and I- I understand what he’s going through. Far more than he thinks I do,” he said, sighing.

“Yeah, why- why don’t you tell him about your prosthetics?” Evan’s dad said softly, crossing his arms. “He’d probably be able to sympathize more that way.”

“No- for once in my life, I’m actually being treated like a normal person,” Connor said, sighing softly. “I really don’t want to tell him, he’ll just treat me like some sob story…”

“Oh- okay, gotcha,” Evan’s dad said, nodding. “Well- come back tommorow, okay? Dont listen to what Evan yells at you.”

Connor chuckled quietly, nodding. “I was planning on it, anyways, honestly,” he said, running a hand through his hair.

“Alright, good,” Evan’s dad nods, chuckling. “Well- oh- I almost forgot about paying you. Is thirteen an hour okay? You don’t have to stay all day, or anything.”

“No, I- I don’t want to be paid,” Connor said, shaking his head. “Seriously, I’m not doing this for the money or anything-“

“Are- are you sure? Because the ad was for a job,” Evan’s dad said hesitantly.

“I’m sure, really,” Connor spoke, a small smile on his face.

“Alright- well, if you change your mind, just let me know, okay?” Evan’s dad said, still a little suspicious if Connor was telling the truth or not. “You head on home, okay? Get some sleep.”

Connor chuckled softly and nodded, heading out of the house and back home.

Evan was in his room the next morning, curled up in his blankets as he tried to sleep in. -
Connor arrived at the front door of Evan’s house, knocking on the door.
