“What? No- I never said that-“ Evan said nervously, trying to hide his hands as they shook.

"No, you- you definitely said that," Connor said, his face heating up more as he tried not to get too hopeful.

“So what if I do?” Evan said quietly, wringing his hands together.

"Did- Did you really mean it?" Connor asked softly, a small smile growing on his face.

“Yes! I f---in’ did, okay? Leave me alone-“ Evan said angrily, turning and continuing to walk.

"Wait, wait-" Connor said, stepping forward and gently grabbing Evan's hand. "I- I like you, too, Evan."

“Don’t f--- with me right now, Connor-“ Evan said, tensing slightly.

"I'm not, Evan, I promise," Connor said sincerely, gently squeezing Evan's hand in his own. "I'm an honest man, I wouldn't lie to you about this." Yeah, about this. About my legs? That statement goes out the window-

“Is this what you’ve been hiding?” Evan whispered, furrowing his brows. “But- how could you relate to me with that-“

"I- No, it's- I mean, I guess-" Connor stuttered, his hand beginning to shake. He dropped Evan's hand, exhaling shakily. f---- Do I tell him? What do I do?? "It's not what- what I've been 'hiding', no-"

“Well, how can I f---ing trust you about this if you’re hiding things from me?” Evan said, crossing his arms.

"I- I'm sorry, I just-" Connor spoke, tears filling his eyes as he grew frustrated. A little bit at Evan, but most with himself. God, he'll hate me if I tell him now- But, I don't want to keep hiding this from him- He furiously rubbed his eyes and exhaled shakily, gently grabbing Evan's hand. "Let's just, go back to your place," he mumbled shakily.

“Fine,” Evan muttered, subconsciously moving close to Connor as they started home.

Connor exhaled shakily, keeping his gaze down on the sidewalk as they walked. "I'm sorry, I just- I can't tell you," he whispered softly, his hands beginning to shake again.

“Why not?” Evan asked quietly, squeezing Connor’s hand.
