“NO, get away from me-“ Evan wailed, backing up into his desk. He took a shaky breath, rubbing his eyes angrily as he held back tears.

Connor stayed still, watching Evan as he himself began to panic. “f---, I- I’m so sorry, I- I really didn’t mean to make you upset-“

“Well, you f---in’ did, are you happy with yourself?” Evan spat, leaning heavily against his desk. “So get the f--- out- I don’t want you here.”

Connor exhaled shakily and turned, walking out of the room. “I’m sorry,” he spoke in a soft, sad voice, pausing at the doorway for a moment before walking off.

“You should be!” Evan screamed at him, rushing to the door and slamming it behind him. “What’s going on?” Evan’s dad called from the bottom of the stairs, a concerned look on his face.

“I- I kinda made him upset,” Connor spoke, his voice shaking a little. “I was just trying to- to lighten the mood and- God, I’m such an idiot, I- I’m sorry, I should probably go…”

“Are you gonna come back tomorrow?” Evan’s dad asked softly. “And you aren’t driving yourself, are you?”

“I- I am, but-“ Connor paused, rubbing the side of his face with his hand as he walked down the stairs. “I- I don’t think I should come back, I’m sorry-“

“Connor, I understand where your coming from, but I think you need to understand that- Evan needs somebody, and I’m sorry for the way he’s treating you, but trust me, he’s a good guy once you break those walls down,” Evan’s dad said, almost begging.

“No, I know- I really do,” Connor spoke softly, crossing his arms over his chest. “I was the same way, going through my treatments and recoveries, so it just- it feels too real, hits so close to home,” he added, exhaling shakily. “I- I guess I can come back tomorrow, though-“

“If it does get too much, you don’t have to come back, just- y’know, don’t let him scare you away,” Evan’s dad said softly.

Connor nodded, giving Evan’s dad a small smile before heading to the front door.

“Drive safe, okay?” Evan’s dad said with a reassuring smile, waving a little.

“I will,” Connor replied softly, walking out of the house and to his car.
