Clay stared at George for a moment and hesitantly took his hand, making sure their arms wouldn’t touch too much. He exhaled softly, gently squeezing his hand.
-
“Are you sure there’s nothing you wanna talk about?” George whispered. “Because I’m all ears-“
-
“I- I’m okay right now, I think,” Clay replied quietly, nodding a little. “Do- Do you wanna watch something?”
-
“Yeah, sure,” George said with a smile, nodding and moving to sit back against the couch.
-
Clay nodded and grabbed the remote, leaning into George’s side a little and gently squeezing his hand as he turned on the TV. “Any suggestions?”
-
“Uh, nah, something random,” George shrugged. “I don’t care, honestly. You pick~”
-
Clay nodded, putting on a random show. He curled closer to George, resting his head on his shoulder as he fidgeted with the sleeve of his shirt. He kept tugging at it nervously, as if it were going to roll up on its own.
-
“Are you sure you like that shirt? It seems to be bothering you,” George said softly, glancing over at him.
-
“Wh- No, yeah, it’s- it’s fine,” Clay replied with a quick nod, pulling his hand away from the hem of his sleeve.
-
“Clay, please tell me what’s wrong,” George said with a frown, squeezing his hand. “There’s something- something more that’s bothering you.”
-
“N-No, I- I’m okay-“ Clay said, starting to panic. No, no, I can’t tell him- He can’t find out- I don’t deserve his pity- I don’t deserve anything-
-
“Woah- woah, hey, I’m not gonna be mad,” George whispered. “Breathe, Clay, it’s okay.”
-
Clay inhaled and exhaled shakily, trying to calm down. He clutched his hands to his chest, gripping on the collar of his shirt and tugging at it.
-
“Breathe with me, Clay, breathe,” George said, inhaling deeply.
-
Clay inhaled and exhaled shakily, trying to calm down as he tugged at the sleeve of his shirt.
