“That’s good to hear~“ Karl said with a smile, letting go of him after a moment. He led Nick into the dining room, where his father stood. “Nick, pleasure to see you again,” he said with a smile, walking over and extending his hand to the ravenette.

“Hello Mr. Jacob’s,” Nick said politely, shaking his hand. “How’ve you been doing?”

“I’ve been doing just fine, thank you for asking,” Karl’s father spoke, a warm smile on his face. The lock of the front door clicked and Karl froze, a hint of panic washing over him. No, she can’t be home- She’s supposed to be on a work trip, he thought anxiously, looking over at the door to see his mother walk in. “Hi, Mom-“ “What do we have here, some sort of party?” She spoke, a hint of venom in her voice.

“Oh, good,” Nick said, glancing at Karl when he heard the voice, frowning when he saw the panic on his face.

“Just thought I’d invite my boyfriend to have dinner with us,” Karl spoke, trying to keep his voice from shaking as he moved to Nick’s side. “Although, I didn’t expect you to be back so soon-“ “Yes, well, I managed to book an early flight,” she said curtly, walking over to the dining room. She walked over to her husband and smiled, kissing his cheek. Karl rolled his eyes at her, crossing his arms over his chest.

Nick glanced at Karl’s mother, watching between her and Karl. “Hello, Mrs. Jacob’s, it’s nice to meet you-“

His mother turned back, a hint of disgust on her face before she forced a smile. “Nice to meet you,” she spoke shortly before going to sit at the table. Karl exhaled with exasperation, rubbing his face with his hands.

Nick smiled awkwardly, glancing at Karl in confusion.

Karl glanced over at Nick before grabbing his hand, leading him into the kitchen. “I- I’m so sorry about my mom, she’s an a--hole for no good reason-“

“Hey, it’s all good, it’s not your fault,” Nick said quietly. “We’ll make the best of it, okay?”

Karl nodded, exhaling softly. “Just, don’t take anything she says to heart, okay?” He murmured, gently taking both Nick’s hands in his own.

Nick nodded, squeezing Karl’s hands. “I promise.”

Karl nodded, a small smile appearing on his face. He leaned forward, pressing a short kiss on Nick’s lips. “I’m glad you’re here~” He said, humming as he stepped back a little.

Nick smiled brightly, kissing Karl back for a moment. “Me too~”
