“Hey, I don’t think that’s gonna happen- I mean, why would you make that up?” Liam said softly.

“I- I dunno, I’m just scared…” Jared whispered softly, clinging to Liam as he tried not to cry for the third or forth time that day.

“Yeah, that’s okay,” Liam whispered, gently rubbing Jared’s back. “It’s normal to be scared, hun-“

“I- I don’t want it to happen again-“ Jared spoke in a hushed voice, his hands shakily gripping onto Liam’s shirt.

“And it won’t,” Liam said seriously, tightening his grip onto Jared for a moment. “I promise you, I will not let it happen.”

Jared exhaled shakily, nodding as curled closer to Liam.

“Um- I’m sorry- y’know, that I’m kind of the reason your mom is mad,” Liam whispered, rubbing Jared’s back.

“What- No, Bug, it’s not your fault-“ Jared spoke quickly, shaking his head. “Please, it’s not your fault, I promise, Liam-“

“Well- it kinda is, right? If we weren’t dating your mom wouldn’t have caught us and then she wouldn’t be mad at you,” Liam said, his voice weak.

“Well- I guess, yeah, but-“ Jared sighed, shifting in his spot to face Liam. “But she’d get mad at me anyways, y’know? I mean, I was bound to realize I liked guys at some point, right?”

“Mm, that’s fair,” Liam said quietly, meeting eyes with Jared. “I just feel kinda bad.”

Jared moved his hands up to Liam’s cheeks, cupping his face in his hands. “Please don’t feel bad, Bug, I promise I- I don’t think it’s your fault or- or anything like that at all, okay??” He spoke, gently rubbing his face with his thumbs.

“Okay, yeah, sorry,” Liam said with a small, sad smile as he met Jared’s eyes.

“Don’t apologize, okay?” Jared said with a small smile, pressing a short kiss on Liam’s lips. “And, please don’t be sad- I hate seeing you upset, Bug~”

Liam nodded, smiling a little more. “Okay, I won’t.” he said, needing to stop himself from saying sorry again.
