His mother glared and took a step towards Lawrence, ignoring Briar. ‘Come here, Lawrence. I’m waiting.’
Lawrence shook his head. -
“I think you should leave, ma’am,” Briar spoke, stepping back ever so slightly.
-
Lawrence stayed behind Briar. The woman scowled at Lawrence. ‘I-It’s okay, hun, I-I’ll talk to her,’ he mumbled, stepping away from Briat.
-
“Are you sure?” Briar asked, watching Lawrence with a nervous look on his face. “You seriously don’t have to if you don’t want to,” he spoke in a low voice, gently squeezing his boyfriend’s hand.
-
Lawrence gently pulled his hand away. ‘It’s okay, I promise.’ He followed his parents out of the throne room, and that’s where the yelling began.
‘You lost our kingdom and had the audacity to just disappear?!’
‘It’s been two years, Lawrence!’
‘And now what?! You’re flirting with the King?!’
‘Your family has won wars, and yet when you’re put in charge you lose a tiny battle to Atlea?!’ -
Briar exhaled softly, watching them leave. He paced back and forth for a moment before walking back over to Lucinda.
-
Lawrence didn’t answer, eyes on the ground. His mother scowled and grabbed his hair, forcing him to look at her. ‘You lost us everything, Lawrence. You’re coming home. Now.’
-
“Everything okay?” Lucinda asked, gently grabbing Briar’s hand. “I- I don’t know, his parents looked upset with him and-“ He sighed, rubbing his face with his free hand.
-
Lawrence looked back to the doors. ‘M-Mother, I can’t-‘
‘Yes you can, and you will. Come on,’ his father snapped. His mother grabbed his wrist and dragged him along. Lawrence didn’t resist. -
Briar exhaled softly, glancing back at the door. “God, I- I need to check on him,” he murmured, heading to the door. Why do I feel like something bad is happening to him..?
-
‘I-I don’t want to leave,’ Lawrence mumbled, tugging his wrist away from his mother, who glanced back at him with a scowl.
‘Lawrence, you’ll do as I say.’
‘N-No.’ -
Briar turned the corner, seeing Lawrence getting dragged off by his mother. “Hey, let him go!”
-
Lawrence’s mum looked at him. ‘This is none of your business,’ she snapped. Lawrence looked down, ashamed.
-
“It kind of is, as Lawrence is my boyfriend,” Briar spoke, anger rising in his voice as he rushed over to Lawrence’s side.
-
‘Your boyfriend?!’ his mother shouted. ‘Your boyfriend is the king of the kingdom you lost a war to?! I didn’t know you were one of those-‘
‘Don’t say it,’ Lawrence mumbled.
