‘Not like s---,’ Lawrence offered, sitting up. He kissed the back of Briar’s hand. ‘You look cute.’
-
Briar giggled, smiling. “Thank you, love~” He spoke with a smile, standing. “Alright, I think we need to head down to the throne room? I know Lucinda wanted to speak with me before the ceremony started.”
-
‘Okay,’ Lawrence said with a smile. He straightened his suit and fixed his hair.
-
Briar stared at Lawrence for a moment, the redness in his face never ceasing. He reluctantly pulled his gaze away and moved out from in front of the seat, going to slip on his boots.
-
Lawrence kissed his jaw and did the same, slipping on his boots.
-
Briar hummed softly as he opened up the bedroom door, grabbing Lawrence’s hand and heading down the staircase. “I really need to sort things out and work on those divorce papers,” he mumbled to himself, the thought popping back into his head.
-
‘I agree. I’ll help you,’ Lawrence said, wrapping an arm around him. ‘Does it still have to be a secret that we’re dating?’
-
“Until the divorce is announced, yes, unfortunately,” Briar said, sighing softly. “We may have to be extra careful now, as well. I mean, now that I’ve denounced the throne, there’s not much stopping anyone from shouting homophobic slurs at me. And yes, it’s happened before.” He sighed, running his free hand through his hair.
-
‘That’s horrible,’ Lawrence said softly. ‘Part of the reason I was closeted. People are jerks.’
-
“I thought things would be different, I mean- I was kind of out just because I didn’t care, but when I became king and really started talking about it, I got a s--- ton of backlash,” Briar said with a sigh, soon making it to the bottom of the stairs. “I just sort of, dropped it and never brought it back up.” He paused, giggling. “Whoo, the court’s gonna have a cow when they find out Lucinda’s gay~”
-
‘Lucinda’s gay?’ Lawrence questioned, laughing. ‘I love that! And I’m sorry I wasn’t there to help you with the homophobia. I could’ve done something.’
-
“Yes, they’re also nonbinary,” Briar said, giggling. “It’s one of the reasons why I did want to choose them, but was also hesitant, due to the backlash I received. I didn’t want them to go through what I did. But Lucinda’s tough, tougher than me, that’s for sure~”
-
‘Noted. And fair enough, but they seem strong enough to manage it,’ Lawrence said, pulling his arm away from Briar’s waist when he saw a servant walk past.
-
“They’ll definitely make a better ruler than me,” Briar said with a chuckle, blowing strands of hair out of his face. He hummed softly as he walked, acknowledging the staff of the castle when they passed by with a smile.
-
Lawrence rolled his eyes, smiling. ‘I doubt it. You were a great ruler.’
