“I know, me too,” Evan said quietly, eating another gummy. “But do you really wanna stoop down to their level and beat them up?”
-
“Honestly, at this point? Yes!” Connor exclaimed angrily, throwing his hands in the air. “They hurt you! They tried to f---ing kill you, Evan! I- I love you, and I can’t lose you,” he spoke as he leaned against the counter, covering his face with his hands.
-
“I know, but you didn’t loose me,” Evan said quietly, looking up at Connor. “And I don’t want you getting in trouble for doing something stupid.”
-
Connor exhaled shakily, pulling his hands away from his face. “I don’t f---ing care anymore, I just- f----“ He kicked his foot against the cabinet behind him and walked out of the kitchen, walking out the front door. “Boys, is everything okay?” Hannah asked, poking her head out of her room.
-
“Uh, it was,” Evan said, hopping off the counter to go after Connor. “But Connor just got really upset and walked out the front door.”
-
“God, he better not do something stupid,” Hannah muttered, walking over to the front door. “Evan, I’m gonna take you up to the hospital- I got a buddy of mine to help do a quick x-ray for you, to make sure you haven‘t fractured anything. Go wait out in my car, I’ll drive you there.” She opened the front door, pulling out her keys and unlocking her car. She walked down to the end of the driveway, looking around for Connor. “Thank God he’s not in his car,” she mumbled, rubbing her face with one hand.
-
“Okay, thank you,” Evan said quietly, pulling his shoes on and heading outside. “Do you see him anywhere?”
-
“No, he’s long gone,” Hannah said with a sigh, running. hand through her hair as she waked over to her car. “He does this sometimes when he’s upset, just to get a breather,” she explained, leaving out the part that usually it ends with him either coming home smelling like weed and alcohol or covered in bruises. “I’ll let him know I’m taking you to the hospital, maybe then he’ll come home and drive over,” she said as she got in her car, starting it and buckling up.
-
“Oh, okay,” Evan said quietly with a nod as he climbed into the passenger seat and buckled up. “Does he do it a lot?”
-
“Sometimes, yes,” Hannah replied with a nod. “He says he does it to clear his head and calm down. He just needs some time alone with his thoughts.” She glanced over at Evan, smiling gently. “He’ll be fine, he just needs a minute. So, don’t worry about him too much, okay?”
-
Evan sighed quietly, nodding. “I won’t, I promise.” He sat in silence for a moment, trying to get comfortable and failing miserably.
-
They soon arrived at the hospital and Hannah parked the car, getting out. “I know you’re nervous and don’t want to tell your parents, but I do have to, considering you’re still a minor,” she spoke before shutting her door.
-
“Yeah, I know,” Evan said quietly, climbing out of the car and shutting the door. “Do you want me to call them, or?”
-
“That might be good, unless you want to wait until after,” Hannah replied, walking over to Evan’s side before heading towards the hospital building.
-
Evan followed her, taking out his phone and calling his mom. “Now where exactly have you been??” His mom said once she answered the phone. “When you get home you are grounded, young man-“ “Yeah, mom, I know, but can-“ Evan sighed, pausing for a moment. “I’m at the hospital, I might have fractured a rib. My- my friends mom is a nurse, and she wants you to come, please.” “Evan if this is some bulls--- about you wanting to die again-“ “Mom, I’ll tell you the details once you get here, okay? Bye,” he said hanging up the phone.
