Connor nodded, running a hand through his hair. He offered his other hand to Evan, staring at the wall in front of him. “How’re you doing? Still is major pain??”
-
Evan took his hand, continuing to watch Connor. “Yeah. Not major pain, your mom gave me something while I was waiting.”
-
“That’s good,” Connor replied, rubbing the back of Evan’s hand with his thumb. A while later Connor’s mom and her friend walked out of the exam room, holding the x-rays. “Good news, nothing’s broken,” Hannah spoke with a small smile. “Unfortunately there is a bit of a fracture in the area I examined earlier, but it’s nothing that can’t be healed within a week or two,” she added, resting her hand on Evan’s shoulder.
-
Evan sighed quietly with relief. “Okay. Thank you for doing this for me- I’m sorry it’s all been so crazy.”
-
“Hey, don’t worry, kiddo~” Hannah said with a smile, gently patting Evan’s shoulder. “I’m happy to help out- I’m just glad you’re not hurt worse than this, considering you just got out of a cast-“ Connor nodded in agreement, gently squeezing his boyfriend’s hand.
-
“Yeah, same,” Evan said with a chuckle. “How would they even cast a rib? Wrap your whole chest up?”
-
“Kind of,” Hannah replied with a short chuckle, nodding. “I myself haven’t treated someone with a broken rib, but I think that’s how it works- Not sure, to be honest, I don’t normally do casts on people,” she added, chuckling. Connor rested his head back against the wall, zoning out. He hated hospitals, despite the fact how often he’s here, whether for injuries or to see his mother.
-
“That’s fair,” Evan said, shrugging and wincing slightly. He glanced over at Connor, squeezing his hand gently before looking back at Hannah. “Can we go show these x-rays to my mom?”
-
Hannah smiled and nodded, heading towards the waiting room. Connor stood with Evan, following him and his mother.
-
Evan glanced up at Connor, squeezing his hand once more before letting go, just before they turned into the waiting room. “Alright, Evan, c’mon, since you’re finally done, let’s go home,” Evan’s mom said, standing and grabbing her purse once she saw them. “Mom, I’d like you to see the x-rays-“ “How much attention do you want, hun? Are you trying to make me upset so all these people can pity you?”
-
“Well, it just so happens your son has a fractured rib, and it needs to be taken care of before it gets worse and causes any long-term issues,” Hannah spoke, handing Evan’s mother the x-rays.
-
Evan’s mother nodded as she looked through the x-rays. “Of course it’s only fractured, though. What treatments would he go through?”
-
Hannah’s mother began explaining what Evan would have to do to get properly healed and what the process would look like. Connor moved closer to Evan’s side, watching the two women talk. “Not gonna lie, your mom’s a bit of an ass,” he murmured quietly, ducking his head and looking over at Evan.
-
“She’s not usually this bad, I promise,” Evan whispered in return, turning his head to look at Connor. They were mere inches apart, and if his mother weren’t here he would’ve leaned in and kissed him. But she was here, so he looked back at the two women talking. “Okay, well I’ll get him started on all of that. Thank you, though, for trying to act like a better mother to Evan than I am. Cmon, Evan, we’re going home.”

“Happy to help,” Hannah said as she feigned another smile, nodding. “Do you have to go?” Connor whispered softly, going to grab his hand but stopping himself.
