"Why not?" Ernie said, sighing in exasperation. "Please?"

‘No. I can’t,’ Mahina mumbled. She hated that she couldn’t trust him enough to tell him.

Ernest exhaled sharply through his nose, annoyed that she wouldn't tell him anything. "Fine, but this conversation isn't over." He said, trying to sound more gentle than before since she seemed upset enough as is.

Mahina’s eyes welled with tears as she turned away from him. ‘Fine,’ she said.

Ernie bit his lip once he saw her eyes tear up. "I'm sorry." He said after a minute. "For snapping at you."

‘It's fine,’ Mahina said, starting to put the groceries away.

Ernest shook his head, grabbing her hands to get her attention. "No. It's not. I really am sorry. You didn't deserve that."

Mahina looked up at him, then smiled softly. ‘I forgive you,’ she said quietly.

Ernie gave a small smile, letting go of her hands.

Mahina didn’t really want him too, but turned back to her groceries.

"Here, mind if I help?" Ernest asked, grabbing some of the groceries. He didn't know how much help he'd be since he didn't know where most of the stuff went, but he wanted to be useful nonetheless.

‘Sure,’ Mahina said with a smile.

"Thanks." Ernie grabbed the eggs and looked at Mahina, wondering if she put them in a cabinet or somewhere colder.

Mahina pointed to the cabinet.

"Great!" Ernest opened the cabinet door and placed them carefully so they didn't break.
