Selene shrugged. "I'm sorry." She repeated, looking at Maeve with a sympathetic smile.

'Why did they give me away to you, anyway?'

Selene looked at Maeve. "That, Nina, is a long story that I'm sure you'll regret asking once you find out." She said, only half-joking.

'I mean, it better be. They better have a good reason.'

Selene gave a small chuckle. She couldn't help but feel bad for Mahina for being put in such a bad situation.

Mahina gave a weak smile.

Selene looked at her. "You alright?"

'Yeah,' she lied.

Selene didn't believe her. "You sure?"

Mahina nodded.

Selene still wasn't sure she believed her, but didn't ask again.

'Why am I not with my parents right now? Why do I live with you?'
