Chester pulled him closer, glancing at Jayden’s parents before clearing his throat. ‘So, how was your day?’ he asked his boyfriend’s family, in a poor attempt to make small talk.

"Fine." Jayden's dad answered, sounding very uninterested.

‘Right,’ Chester mumbled, tapping his fingertips together. After a pause of awkward silence, he spoke up again. ‘So, what do you like to do in your spare time, Mr Celeste?

"Read the papers." Jayd's dad shrugged. Jayden wasn't sure if there was passive aggressiveness in his tone, or if he was just becoming paranoid.

Oh, joy. That was an awesome hobby for his boyfriend’s dad to have when every paper in the nation seemed to despise Chester at the moment.
He winced and looked back down at his hands. ‘Er, cool. Did you find anything… interesting?’ -
Jayd gave a small sigh, grabbing Chester's hand to try and relax him. His dad looked up at Chester. "Oh, I've heard plenty interesting things lately."
Yup. That was definitely passive aggressiveness in his tone now. -
Chester winced, glancing back up at him. ‘Ah, right…’

Jayden wrapped an arm around him, looking up at his dad with a frown. Astrid had a hint of a smirk on his face.

Chester fiddling with his hands. ‘Er, what kind of interesting things?’

Jayd mentally slapped his hand on his forehead. His dad narrowed his eyes. "Nothing you don't already know." He said, his voice having an icy edge to it.
"Not at dinner, Harlem." Jayden's mom murmured. -
Chester looked down. ‘Ah, so you’ve seen those ones,’ he mumbled, pulling out his pocket watch to fiddle with.

"How could I not?" Harlem muttered. Jayd glared before turning to Chester and leaning into him more.

Chester didn’t respond, avoiding the two’s gaze. He fiddled with the chain of his watch, ashamed.

Jayden sighed, grabbing Chester's chin and slowly turning it so he'd look him in the eye. "Hey." He said quietly.

Chester looked at him. ‘Hi,’ he mumbled.
