‘I-I’ll stay.’ He was not about to risk seeing Astrid - or anyone, really - in the hallway. What would happen if they saw him like this?

Jayd gave a small nod. “Ok.” He kissed the top of Chester’s head. “I’ll be back before you know I’m gone.”

Chester nodded. ‘Alright.’

Jayden gave a gentle smile before opening the door to his room and leaving. He saw Neo waiting a few doors down. “Make sure Astrid doesn’t come in my room while I’m gone.”

Neo bowed his head. ‘Of course.’

Jayd gave a small respectful nod before leaving to go to the kitchens. He walked in where his chef was before walking to the pantry and searching for chocolate, or any comfort food, really.

Chester leaned against the wall, cuddling his knees to his chest.

Jayden eventually found a chocolate bar, some strawberries, and a slice of banana bread. He grabbed them and walked back over to his room.

Chester buried his face in his hands. He heard two men arguing outside the room, one Neo, one a voice he didn’t immediately recognise.

Jayd noticed. “Astrid, stop trying to get into my room.” He snapped before opening the door inside.

Astrid frowned. ‘What are you doing with all that food?’ he asked, following.

“None of your business.” Jayden glared, wedging himself between the door opening so Astrid couldn’t get through. “Go in your own room if you’re so bored.”

‘I’m not bored, just making sure my lil brother is ok,’ Astrid said, ruffling Jayden’s hair, before trying to push past him and look inside. ‘Where’s ginger, hm?’

Jayd seemed to shrink when Astrid ruffled his hair before stopping him again. “None of your business.” He repeated. “Leave me and him alone.”

Chester looked up, noticing Astrid trying to get inside. ‘Jayden?’
‘No,’ Astrid answered simply. ‘Let me in.’
