"My family can go suck a lemon." Jayden kissed the top of his head.

Chester sank into his seat, snuggling up to Jayden’s side. ‘Maeve sucked a lemon when she was 8 to prove it wasn’t that bad. She puked after,’ he mumbled.

Jayden chuckled. "I had one with pepper once. I think someone dared me to do it." He scrunched up his nose, shaking his head to show how not worth it the dare was.

‘You’re the type to do that,’ Chester mumbled, burying his face in Jayden’s shoulder.

"I'm choosing to take that as a compliment." Jayden held him close.

‘You’re welcome, then,’ Chester said, snuggling close. ‘I’m screwed, aren’t I?’

Jayden sighed softly. "Maybe a little."

‘If I say I’m a murderer, despite what I said at the conference, nobody will trust anything I say from there on. If I don’t, I don’t know what the hell Astrid will do, and I don’t want to be dethroned.’

Jayden gave a small nod. "I could try to talk to him, to see what he'll try and do, but I don't think he'd reveal much to me."

Chester looked up at him. ‘Do you know why he hates me so much?

Jayden shook his head. "I wish I did."
