Chester looked at him. He shuffled closer, wrapping an arm around his shoulders. ‘Why?’

"If you didn't stay with me, you wouldn't have met my family, and Astrid wouldn't have told everyone this, and Cleverly and your entire kingdom wouldn't be pissed off at you for still dating me."

‘So you’re sorry you’re a good person and that I love you?’

"Everyone hates you because you love me." Jayden mumbled. YOU hate yourself for loving me.

Chester sighed. He pulled him close, one arm around his waist, his spare hand playing with his hair. ‘But that says more about them than you, right?

Jayden didn't know if he wanted to be held close or if he wanted space, but he leaned closer to Chester anyways. "Do you still feel guilty that I'm not a woman?" He half hoped his voice was low enough that he couldn't hear.

Chester pulled him closer. ‘I don’t know, love. But that’s nothing you did, it’s just me getting in my own head, okay?’

Jayden frowned, pulling away to look at him. "What do you mean, you don't know? Do you feel guilty for being with me or not?"

‘O-Of course not, love,’ Chester said quickly, grabbing his hand. He wasn’t sure how he felt, but he didn’t want Jayden to doubt his love for him.

Maybe Jayden was on high alert after getting indirectly yelled at by Cleverly, but he pulled his hand away after hearing the stutter in Chesters' voice. "Would you rather me be a girl?" He said simply, looking him dead in the eye.

Chester avoided his gaze. ‘I wouldn’t rather you be anything, y-you’re perfect the way you are.’

Jayden cupped Chesters' chin in his hands, tilting it enough to lock eyes with him. "Would you rather me be a girl?" He repeated.

‘Y-You being a girl would just be a bonus, I-I wouldn’t necessarily prefer it..’

Jayden didn't like that answer. He didn't know what sort of answer he wanted though, so he put his hand down. "Okay." He mumbled, running a hand through his hair and exhaling shakily.

Chester grabbed his hands. ‘I love you.’
