‘Your board would never let you. A-And you can’t legalise murder, chaos would ensue,’ Chester said quietly, trying not to completely break down. ‘Maeve would have to take over..’ When he’d told Maeve, “If anything happens to me, you’ll have to take over if you don’t want Henry as your king,” he didn’t realise it could happen now. He thought it was just a pep talk to get her to be a good student. -

"You didn't intend to kill them." Jayden reminded him gently. -
‘I still killed them!’

"How did you kill them?" Jayden asked, trying to think. The chandelier fell after a prank gone wrong...

‘I-I accidentally loosened the chandelier, and it just fell on top of them…’

Jayden thought for a moment. "Would you get charged the same punishment for accidental murder?"

Chester’s grip on him tightened as he tried to calm down and think. ‘I-I… Well, since it was both indirect and an accident, I’d probably get a couple years less…’

"Alright." Jayden paused. "Could we get your dad to testify and try to get you in even less jail time?'

Chester thought for a moment, exhaling shakily. ‘I suppose.’

Jayden kept thinking. "Was the chandelier old?"

‘What classifies as old?’

"Old enough for the metal holding it to start rusting, and stop working. So ten years or more."

‘I-I think it was around 9.’

"Is there any way we could blame it on the chandelier being old?"

‘Maybe,’ Chester mumbled.
