Mildred usually would've laughed at that, but under the circumstances she kept quiet. 'I'm small,' she said, voice almost a whisper. 'There are a lot of people bigger than me, who carry more blood..?' She wasn't sure why she was still making excuses for her life, it would be no use.
-
"that's about the best point you've made all night, but it's not really a saving argument." Jack said before standing back up. "I'll be frank with you, Mildred. I'm bored. If you can entertain me, I won't bleed you dry." Jack said, extending his cold dead hand to assist her. This interaction had been entertaining enough, he wanted more to bring him joy. He was so bored he'd started writing poetry about how bored he was.
-
Mildred just stared at him, her mouth slightly open. 'R-really?' she asked, confused. She looked at his pale hand, then back up at him. She was only just beginning to notice his eye patch.
'Deal,' she said, taking his hand. Mildred wasn't sure how to entertain him, but was willing to try. -
"great." Jack said pulling Mildred up to her feet. "Guards, get this girl a room in the servants quarters." Jack said letting go of Mildred's hand. He was happy to know something would happen in the castle he almost smiled. "Good luck Mildred." Jack said to the mortal
-
'Thank you,' Mildred said to the man, and was indeed very grateful to still be alive. The two men who'd previously kidnapped her lead her to a room on the far side of the castle. It wasn't a particularly large room, nor smelt very nice, but Mildred thought it better than the alleyway she slept. She sat on the bed, brainstorming ways to make such a man laugh.
-
Jack walked behind his throne to look at the star covered window. He watched the sky and pointed out the constellations once showed to him before. He almost wanted to cry. He touched his cheek right under his eye patch and watched the stars solemnly for many hours to come.
-
After a few hours, Mildred had come up with two jokes that made at least a little sense, which surprised her. But would vampires like stand-up comedy? She wasn't so sure.
She grew tired of thinking and looked around the room. It obviously wasn't kept in the best condition, with dust on most surfaces and a stained carpet. There was a bed that took up one third of the room and a small, grimy window. -
As jack looked out of the window he thought back to the human. He wondered if this mortal truly could entertain. It would be a shame to continue being bored and alone for another 100 years. It would truly be hell-like.
-
Mildred looked out the window, into the unfamiliar kingdom. She wondered if she'd be allowed out, or if the man would let her go back to her small human town. She wondered if she'd spend the rest of her life as the royal's playboy.

playtoy*)
-
As jack thought about the mortal he wondered if his subjects would avoid attacking. Maybe he'd give her a title like the royal jester. It sounded official enough. He sighed. The political stuff was boring but at least it was something to to. He almost wished there were more political matters he could talk about but alas, the kingdom was lacking any matters to discuss. The most he ever got to say to the palace staff was a hello. The nobles rarely ever traveled to the palace unless he directly sent summons and all the horses were needing to be brought back from other kingdoms.
-
Mildred sighed. A playtoy she was, she concluded. She should've kept her guard up in the alleyway. She should've slept with a knife in her skirt pocket or some kind of weapon.
She looked back to the window. The window! It was just being enough for her to crawl through. She unlocked it and the glass swung outwards. She gave a triumphant 'ha!' and looked down. If she swung her legs at just the right angle she could jump onto a ledge, and if she landed on her feet she could probably survive the jump to the city below. -
Jack stared longingly out to the houses with their bright little windows and other undead. They were living in such joy he was envious of them. He held his chest where his heart would have been beating if he was alive. His existence felt like a cruel prank. He wished life would be better soon.
-
Mildred took a deep breath and sat on the window sill, her legs dangling towards the undead kingdom. 'It's now or never,' she whispered, and jumped. She only just made it onto the ledge, arms pressed against the wall. Mildred took another deep breath and jumped onto the cobblestones, knees bent so much it was like she was crouching.
She sighed in relief and started running.
One of the guards walked into the room to check on her, only to find the room empty with the window open. He and the other guard ran to the throne room to find the prince. 'She's escaped!' they gasped. -
Jack sighed. "How close is the sunrise?" He asked. There was two courses of action, set out a warrant, send the guards to capture her, go himself, or leave her to the legions of undead outside. He gave her the best option and she ran. It was her fault, but he shouldn't have been so foolish. How dare he put any amount of trust in another mortal. He should've known.
