'You're welcome. Now pick something before the lunch rush starts or you'll be run over by 12th-graders.'
-
"Ack fine!" Theo said, picking a few calzones and an apple. "There, happy?"
-
Hazel chuckled, grabbing a hotdog. She gave some money to the lady on duty.
-
Theo gave his money to her as well, giving Hazel the change.
-
'Thanks,' she said, tucking the money in her pocket. 'Let's go sit down.'
-
Theo nodded, following her to an empty table.
-
There was an old wooden table free, and Hazel sat on one of the benches.
-
"Y'know, your other friends seem to be having fun without you." Theo pointed out, motioning to a table across from them. "In fact, I'm pretty sure they're making fun of you."
-
Hazel sighed, unwrapping the foil off her hotdog. 'I have lots of other friends.'
-
"Really? Because none of them are sitting with you." Theo said bluntly, not realizing how rude that sounded.
-
Hazel glared at him. 'I have lots of other friends,' she said through gritted teeth.
-
"Alright, sorry." Theo said, looking down. He still didn't get why none of her other friends was sitting with her, though he didn't mention it.
-
Hazel watched him for a moment before taking a bite out of her hotdog. She repeated the phrase over and over in her head. I have lots of friends. I have lots of friends. Though the more she thought it, the less she believed it.
-
Theo ate his calzone, still trying to think of why Hazel's friends wouldn't sit with her. Was that normal for most friends to do? He honestly didn't know, but he knew his friends didn't do that.
-
Hazel sighed and continued eating, fiddling with the foil.
