'You might've had too much at once if it seemed to punch you,' Collins chuckled.

"they hurt." Florence said. He remembered how they bounced around his mouth and he didn't like it. He mimicked the angry shout of the researcher who gave him the candy when he spit it out.

'You probably had too much,' Collins laughed.

"the researcher told me... it's better if you eat them... all at once." Florence said.

'Sometimes it isn't,' Collins said. 'If it hurts, you've probably had too much.'

"either way... the researcher got mad and I couldn't get candy... anymore." Florence said. He chewed harder on the wires

'That's a bit mean,' Collins said, thinking many she could bring him some. But she rarely got lollies, so maybe not.

"the researcher said." Florence spoke before mimicking exactly "I already get enough s--- from obsidian for giving you candy, I ain't wastin my time giving you more if you just spit it out."

'Is Obsidian the assistant researcher?' Collins asked. She'd heard Florence's mimicking enough to get used to it, but still found it fascinating how he could change his voice so accurately.

"that's what people called him." Florence said. He'd heard the name all the time but if he ever said it he'd be put right into the extractor

'Then why do you still call him the assistant researcher if Obsidian is his name?' Collins asked.

Florence turned around and fluffed up his wings, the then carefully searched his wings with his hands until he felt a familiar bump. He lifted up the feathers higher to show a grotesque greenish boil on his wing that Florence winced at whenever he touched it.

Collins winced. 'He- He did that to do?' she asked, looking away from the boil.

"yes... ever since I promised not to call him that." Florence said putting down his feathers.
