Collins smiled softly. They walked through an alleyway which opened out to a road, with fast cars and people in groups walking down the sidewalk. She stopped halfway down and looked around for another path.

Florence flapped his wings and finally the syringe was in reach he yanked it out and mimicked sour notes on several instruments in his pain.

Collins looked at him. ‘Are you okay?’ she asked worriedly. ‘And can you keep it down, please? Noise echoes in alleyways.’

"I got the needle!" Florence whisper shouted happily.

Collins smiled. ‘That’s good! Maybe chuck it into a dumpster or something,’ she whispered back.

"it's still full of electricity, it could hurt someone." Florence said as he held the sparking syringe

'Nobody goes through dumpsters, trust me,' Collins said. 'It's best we dispose of it now.'

"okay then " Florence said as he threw the syringe in the dumpster. It set the trash on fire. He mimicked the sound of the zapping.

Collins paled. 'Ah- we should probably go,' she said, walking in the opposite direction to the dumpster, where the alleyway opened into a deserted street, away from the highway.

Florence followed, dancing around on his hands. He mimicked a kalimba quietly as he looked at the birds sitting on power lines.

Collins smiled, glancing at him, then back in front of her.

Florence mimicked a red cardinal as he followed Collins. He watched a squirrel run across the street

Collins looked around. She recognised the street, but she didn’t know how to get through all the traffic and crowds at the entrance of the zoo. She took a left, hoping they wouldn’t run into anybody

Florence followed close behind Collins, almost like a creature about to pounce on a helpless victim.

Collins pulled out her phone, looking for directions.
