Jonah walked to the gas station where he found his friends.
“Where were you?” James yelled, it surprisingly George didn’t say anything. That was off. Normally he was the one that couldn’t shut up. -
Valako walked towards her cabin. Sure she thought Jonah was great but how did she feel? Thinking about it made her giddy. What did this mean? She wondered to herself. She rubbed the deformed side of her face.
-
“I was at my house.” Jonah lied. “I slept in. What did you guys do while I was gone?”
-
"I think you know that we know you're lying." James said, glaring first at Jonah then towards the treeline. Valako felt her deformity. She felt wrong, whatever she was feeling, it was wrong and she could feel the reason. The gray slightly wrinkly skin was a curse, the missing eye condemned her to that forest and there was no escape. Having any feelings for anyone would be asking too much.
-
Jonah glared back. “What did George tell you?” He asked, glaring at George. “Because whatever he said he’s lying.”
-
"you went into that forest and you talked to the monster, you listened to what it said, you are from the devil's table." James said stepping closer. Valako ran to her home and looked in the mirror. She hated this face. It was wrong. It was always wrong
-
Jonah stepped back. “The devils table? You’re worse than she is.” He protested, disgusted.
-
"well, tell me this, would god give a god person a demon's face? And if she were good why hasn't she told the city about those supposed hunting traps? If she's good why were those men who were nailed tell stories about a demon that dragged them through the woods and sacrificed them to a strange monster?" James said
-
nailed?! Jonah thought, but didn’t say anything about it. “That’s horrible. You’re horrible. Who says stuff like that?!”
-
"I'm telling the truth, the ones who got attacked in the forest talk about a demon, and she could notify the city of traps if she wanted to help people." James said
-
“And get rocks thrown at her!” Jonah argued, fed up with the conversation. “And besides, would you even believe her?”
-
"if I was a city official I'd have a moral obligation to send some people to check the forest. She could just send a damn email." James said.
-
Jonah glared at James. “My point still stands, would you even believe her?” Jonah demanded.
-
"personally no, but I grew up with that thing haunting me, we're talking about city officials getting an anonymous email about hunting traps in the forest that actively harm people." James said very matter-of-factly
-
Jonah stopped. It actually seemed reasonable what James said. “That-I-fine, you have a point. Happy?”
