'All of the students in her class. They pranked her by writing on the chalkboard with a rope, so she thought the chalk was moving on its own, and wrote a message pretending they were the escapologist.'

“That’s so cool!” Eli whispered awestruck. “I mean, horrible what the stepsister did, but so cool that they got revenge!”

'Yeah. The aunt was haunted for the rest of her life, and bolted out of there. The daughter became principal of the school.'

“So it has a happy ending?” Eli checked. “Or are you just trying to trick me?”

'Yeah, I think it ends there.'

“Yes!” Eli cheered. “That was the best story I’ve heard in a long time.”

'Better than Harry Potter? Or Percy Jackson? Or even Hamilton?'

Eli thought about that for a moment. “Yes, because I know the person that told it, vs all those other stories where I barely know the authors.”

'But how does that change the stuff in the story?'

Eli shrugged. “Because I could see how much you were thinking about the story. Also just because it does.”

'Fair enough.'

Eli nodded, stroking Ralph gently on the side.

'What now?'

Eli shrugged. “Tell me about yourself. The stuff I don’t already know.”
