Eli felt the shadow crawl up their neck, and they stiffened for half a second before hugging Callum even tighter, trying to ignore the feeling of the darkness moving around their hair.

Callum winced as the darkness crawled up his spine, swallowing. Soon the darkness was up his neck. He looked down at Eli.

The shadow curled around Eli's legs and then their face last. "See you wherever this thing'll take us." They said quietly before the shadow completely smothered them.

Callum watched the shadow cover Eli's face before it did his own, a horrible pain searing through him. The pain disappeared, and Callum concluded he was probably dead. He opened his eyes to see he was floating around in literal nothing, still hugging Eli.

Eli felt the pain stop and opened an eye, finding them still hugging Callum. "Oh god, please don't tell me we died." They said quietly, looking around and finding they were.... In nothing. Not quite what they expected.

'I don't know,' Callum said, looking around. His body felt light, and he was slowly turning around. 'This is... Weird.'

"Very weird. If we're trapped here forever I'm going to lose my mind." Eli said, letting go of Callum and doing a zero-gravity flip.

Callum chuckled despite the circumstances. 'Me too,' he said. He looked around before realising they were not alone. There were planks of wood and chairs and pieces of glass floating around, everything it'd taken from the Land Of The Freaks. 'Woah.'

"Is this where that thing put all the stuff it took from the Land of the Freaks?" Eli asked, noticing a piece of the gate and grabbing it. "Because if so I have some choice words to say to that thing when it shows up again."

'I... don't know,' Callum said, looking around. 'Maybe we're a part of it now. Like, inside it.'

"That sounds absolutely horrible, I'd like an exit plan." Eli said, chuckling. "But first we gotta do what we came here to do: find your parents."

Callum nodded, looking around. He spotted a small house-looking object in the distance. 'What about there?' he asked Eli, pointing to it.

Eli nodded, grabbing Callum's wrist. "Come on your highness."

'Alright, jester,' Callum said, trying to move towards the house.

Eli smiled at the old nickname, trying to move to the house as well. After what seemed like ages they both got to the entrence.
