Callum raised an eyebrow. 'You can just go ahead.'

"Alright." Eli climbed up the most secure part of the gate left and extended their hand to the shadow. "Nice shadow thingy. No hurting me. Just show me where you took Callum's parents."

The darkness curled around Eli's arm, slowly growing thicker. Callum took a step forward. 'Eli, get back,' he said, suddenly worried about their plan.

Eli's arm rang with pain the second the darkness curled around it, but they grit their teeth and tried not to look like they were in too much pain. They tried to wipe the shadow thing off of their arm, which just wound up with the shadow all over both arms, and both of them were in pain. "Yeah, that worked great." They said dryly.

'Eli!' Callum shouted, grabbing their shoulder and trying to pull them back.

Eli stumbled back when Callum pulled them back, and tried desperately to make sure Callum didn't get the shadow stuff on him. Eli didn't know what the darkness was doing to them, but it HURT like needles stabbing into them at every direction.

The shadow creeped onto his hand, and Callum exhaled sharply. 'God-' he muttered. He tried to recoil his hand away but the darkness held onto it, and all he could feel was the stabbing pain.

Eli tried to get the shadow stuff off of Callum, but it didn't work. "Dammit!" They shouted, trying to shake the darkness off of them.

The shadow creeped up Callum's arm and around Eli's chest. Callum tried to yank his arm away.

Eli tried desperately to get the shadow off of their chest, but it didn't work. They tried not to scream or cry over the pain, curling up in a ball.

Callum gritted his teeth and shut his eyes tight. His hand was still on Eli's shoulder. He didn't want to watch as his friend was enveloped by the shadow.

"I'm sorry." Eli said in a strained voice. "For getting the shadow stuff on you."

Callum shook his head, wrapping his arm around Eli's shoulders. 'It's fine,' he whispered. 'At least we go down together, right?'

Eli wrapped Callum in a tight hug, and a few tears slid down their face. The shadows wrapped around the two of them.

Callum hugged Eli back, the dark was curling around his legs. He hugged them tighter, trying not to yelp in pain.
