Miles was on his laptop in bed, and was already dressed out of his pyjamas when he saw Amber. He smiled and waved to her, closing the lid of his device and sitting up straight. -
She mouthed "you ready?" to him.

Miles tilted his head at her, before realising what she said and nodding. He set his laptop on his desk and grabbed his phone, tucking it in his jeans pocket. Then he grabbed his shoes and tried to put them on whilst hopping through the house to get to the door.

Amber rushed outside, ignore her mom, who started asking her where she was going. "I'm hanging out with a friend! Bye!" She called to her, stepping out the front door.

'Where on earth are you going?' his mother demanded as he hopped out the door, tying his shoelaces.
'Out with a friend,' Miles called over his shoulder. -
Amber walked over to Miles. "Hey." She said.

'Hello,' he responded, almost tripping over as he looked up at her. He finished tying his laces and stood up straight again, smiling. 'Shall we go?'

"Let's go!" Amber said, hyped up. She started marching down the sidewalk towards downtown.

Miles hurried to catch up with her, not really knowing what to say. He straightened his coat and glanced at Amber, then back out in front of him.

As they were walking, a group of girls pulled up in a convertible beside them on the road. "Amber!" One of them called, "oh. Hi, Skye." Amber mumbled. "Who's this?" They looked at Miles. "your boyfriend?" Skye teases, and her friends laugh snootily.

Miles raised his eyebrows at the group. 'What are you, twelve?' he snapped, taking Amber's hand and walking away.

"They sure act like it." Amber mutters.

Miles glanced behind him at her. 'You okay?'

"Yea." Amber says. "I just wasn't expecting them to come around here."

Miles pursed his lips, slowing pace slightly. 'Those are the snooty kids you were talkin' about yesterday?'
