'Perhaps it is,' Miles said with a shrug. 'Thats up to you to decide.' He turned back around in his seat, hoping Amber would accept his almost-invite. If she did, he would have his first friend in this new city. He picked up his book and opened to the page he was up to, staring at the page but not really reading it?

(ignore that random question mark at the end)

She left with a note on his window. "Totally coming back tomorrow." It said, with a smiley face at the end. Her sisters barely looked up from their phones when she crawled back through her window. One was on call with her boyfriend at the time, was it Charles or Peyton? She couldn't remember. She slipped into bed quietly.
-
Miles glanced back at his window. She was gone, in her place a piece of paper. He stood up and picked it up, unfolding it and smiled at the note written on it. His first friend.
He walked back to his desk and sat down, returning to his book. -
-the next day-
She didn't change out of her school uniform like she usually did after getting home, but she felt it was improper for a guy to see her in her jammies. After everyone had went to bed, she crawl through her window to the other side of the tree, and noticed the window was close. She tapped on it a few times, seeing the boy and trying to get his attention. -
Miles was in his bed this time, reading a sci-fi book. He looked up at the tapping and quickly stood, setting his book down and opening the window for Amber.
'Hello,' he said, unsure how else to address her as he took a few steps backward. -
"Hi." She said, swinging her feet into the room and standing. "I just realized I never got your name." She says with a smile.
-
'Oh, sorry,' he said, nearly smacking his own forehead. 'Miles Willis.'
-
"Nice to meet you, Miles Willis." She said, sitting on the windowsill. "I know you said you wanted to see my paintings..." She pulled out her pocket sketchbook and handed it to him. It was mostly scenery and silhouettes sitting in front of the moon.
-
Miles pulled over a chair so he could sit opposite her, then sat and opened the sketchbook. After he got to about halfway, he exclaimed, 'Holy cow! These are awesome!', eyes still on the pages.
-
Amber smiled. "Thank you." She says sheepishly. "It's taken a while to get to that kind of outcome, but it paid off in the end, I guess."
-
'They're really cool,' he said, handing the sketchbook back to Amber. 'You're a very talented artist.'
-
"Thanks." She said again, putting the sketchbook back in her pocket. "So what are your hobbies?" She asks.
-
'Reading, mainly,' Miles said, gesturing to the book on his bed. 'I also play the cello. I'm not too artsy, but I have some sketches in one of those boxes.' He nodded his head to 4 boxes in the corner.
-
"What kind of books do you read?" She asks, not hiding her curiosity.
