"Ew... Well," Amber laughed a bit. "Luckily i don't have to deal with that. My mom send all of us to the private school as soon as she found out how dirty the public schools are. She is such a germaphobe... I honestly wish i could go to public school, though. The private school students and teachers are snooty."
-
'So are the public school kids,' Miles said, letting out a small chuckle. 'And it's like the teachers don't even care about their jobs.'
-
"Well they do get paid close to nothing." Amber points out.
-
'Then why don't just quit and get a better job?' Miles questioned, leaning back in his chair.
-
"Then who will teach the students?" Amber debated. "And what if they don't have the right degree to get a better job? It's easier to just stick with the job you have than go back to college and get a new degree."
-
'If they didn't get a new degree, they'd be stuck with a job that barely pays, and if you don't have a partner or family who has a job that pays better you end up living in poverty,' Miles said, adopting his debating voice, 'Plus, we still have the private school teachers.'
-
True, but how will they earn money to afford a new college tuition? They get paid next to nothing. Anyways, they wouldn't be able to earn money while in school, unless they work part time somewhere."
-
'Then let's just hope they work part time somewhere, otherwise this debate would be going nowhere,' Mile said with a small chuckle.
-
Amber smiled. "The rich sometimes say poverty is a choice, but some people are financially incapable of getting out of poverty." She finishes. She looked at the watch on her wrist. "I'd better head back across the tree. Hey, since tomorrow's the weekend, wanna go to downtown together and hang out?" She asks.
-
Miles smiled. 'That sounds like fun,' he said. 'I'd be happy to.'
-
"Alright. I'll probably come by about 1pm, ok?" Amber says, climbing out the window. "See you tomorrow."
-
'See you,' Miles said, putting his hand up and giving a small wave.
-
She climbed back through her window, and this time her sisters looked up at her. "We heard talking this time." One of them said. "I was on the phone with a friend." Amber says, the lie slipping off her tongue easily. If any one of her family found out she was sneaking out to talk to a boy, she'd be in big trouble. "Friends? What friends." The other snorts, and they both get absorbed back into their phones. Amber rolls her eyes, changes into her pjs, and goes to sleep.
-
'MILES!' his mother shouted from the kitchen.
'Huh?' Miles shouted in response and closed his window, then left his room to find his mother in the kitchen.
'I heard talking.'
'Just me on the phone with Grandma,' Miles lied.
His mother glared, obviously not convinced, but huffed in response and said, 'Go to bed.' -
-the next day-
(I can't type that without hearing the spongebob voice lol-)
Amber woke up late, but not late enough to where she didn't have time to get ready. She hurriedly got dressed, brushed her hair and teeth, then looked through her window to Miles'. She gave him a thumbs up when he saw her.
