'Interesting. Maybe that's just an American thing,' Miles said with a small laugh, though meant it as a joke.. 'Most of the girls at my old school seemed fine.'
-
"America is very different than the rest of the world. Like, we don't use the metric system, we drive on the right side of the road, and a lot of other things that i can't even think of-" Amber stopped herself when she realized she was rambling again.
-
'Yeah, what is up with that?' he asked, not minding all her talking. He kind of liked it. 'Why do you guys drive of that side of the road? It doesn't make any sense to me.'
-
"I don't know, i'm not the one who made up all these rules!" Amber said with a soft laugh. "Honestly, if i could, i'd move to somewhere in Europe. It sounds much less confusing than America."
-
'Yeah,' Miles said with a chuckle. 'I guess it is.'
-
"Quick question." Amber says after a moment. "Why do we cook bacon but bake cookies?? It makes no sense at all." She said with a grin.
-
Miles furrowed his eyebrows. 'That... is a very good question,' he said, thinking. 'I have no idea.'
-
"Maybe they do that just to make us ask those questions" Amber guesses.
-
'The English language is weird,' Miles mused.
-
"Very." Amber responds. She glanced at a clock and realized what time it was. "I've been here too long. I should go..."
-
'Ah, right,' Miles said, a little disappointed. 'Well, I'll see you tomorrow?'
-
"Of course." Amber says, opening the window, climbing out, and shutting it behind her. She crossed the tree, opened her window, and saw her mom standing in her room, holding a flip flop, crossed arms, and Amber's sisters on each side.
She was in BIG trouble. -
Miles watched as she left, and as he went to cross the window, he noticed a woman and two older girls - presumably Amber's mother and sisters - looking angry. He winced.
-
"how DARE you go behind my back and defy my rules!!" Her mom reprimanded her immediately. Amber stared at the floor. "Look at me when i speak to you!" Amber's mom exclaimed, Amber looked up, seeing the grim expressions on her sisters faces, her mom fuming, and the younger three peeking through the door. "You have been forbidden to cross the tree, yet you still do! Girls, tell me if it happens again, please." Her mom rubbed her temples, leaving the room before it got worse.
-
Miles flinched as Amber's mother started shouting. When she left, he glanced to Amber and watched her solemnly.
