The foster and the couple kept talking for a bit, before the woman crouched down so that she was eye-level with Natsuki.
'Hello,' the woman said softly, in a voice often used around a 5-year-old, 'I'm Susan.'
Natsuki frowned at the woman. -
Ming leaned into Nat, giving Susan an angry look. Susan raised her eyebrows.
-
'We're here to adopt you,' the man said, crouching down next to his wife.
Nat's eyebrows still furrowed into a frown. She didn't want to leave, but the realisation quickly hit her that she didn't have a choice. -
Leo frowned, still looking at the floor. It only took her 2 days to get adopted?
“Ming too, right?” He checked. “I mean, the two of them are a package deal.” -
'Uh- no,' Susan said softly, the smile on her lips falling a little. 'Just Natsuki.'
Ming made a whimpering sound and cuddled closer to her big sister. -
“You can’t have one without having the other.” Leo insisted, though realizing he couldn’t do much about it.
-
'We can't take both,' the woman sighed. 'It was insisted to us that we adopt Nat, as she has... problems, and traumas that need to be fixed. Her little sister will have to stay.'
-
Ming wrapped her arms around Nat and glared at Susan again, but this time she seemed more sad than angry.
-
Susan stood, seeming to give up on reassuring Nat, and her husband did the same. 'Come on, darling,' she said to Nat.
Natsuki glanced at Leo, then her sister, and tried to tell Leo with her eyes to look after Ming, before standing up. -
Leo understood, grabbing Ming’s hands and leading her to a couple kids her age, trying (and failing) to distract her.
-
The foster care agent led Nat and the couple out of the building. Nat sat in the back seat of a blue Hyundai with the couple in the front, and they began the long drive to the city.
(Timeskip to after school?) -
(Alrighty)
Nik opened the door to the foster care room, looking inside and realizing Nat wasn’t there.
“Where is she?” He asked Leo and Ming. -
'Well...' Leo said, unsure of how to break the news. He put down a book about a talking dog become friends with a rock and this time Ming didn't complain. 'She's... well, gone.'
-
Nikolai’s face fell. “Gone where? Did she get transferred into another room or something?”
-
'No, she's been adopted,' Leo said, looking away. 'By some couple who lives in the city.'
