Nik wiped his eyes. “Go. I’ll meet you there tomorrow. Promise.”

Natsuki stood on her tiptoes and kissed Nik's cheek softly, then turned away and walked toward the car before another wave of tears could come.

Nikolai looked away as Nat got in the car, a couple hot tears coming down his face, and he wiped his eyes furiously.

Nat sat in the back seat, and almost immediately after the door closed the car started off. Nat kept her head hung low, avoiding Nik's gaze.

After the car left Nikolai walked home, still wiping hot tears from his face.

The car ride was long, Nat and the agent sitting in silence.
'You did the right thing, kiddo,' the agent said, glancing up at the rearview mirror to look at her. Natsuki refused to look back, crossing her arms. The woman sighed and looked back out in front of her. -
Nikolai finally got to his house, and went into his room, unable to sleep for an hour or two.

The two got to the centre about 20 minutes later, and the woman led Natsuki inside, into the playroom with a bunch of the other children. Nat immediately rushed to Ming, who sat on her own in the corner of the room.
'Nattie!' the little girl shouted, wrapping her arms around Natsuki's neck. 'They took Xiao away in a car with flashing lights! I don't know where he is!'
Natsuki cuddled her little sister close, breathing a sad sigh. -

Nik had a nightmare where he was trapped in a glass cage, unable to get out. -

Natsuki woke in her bed, cuddled up next to Ming. It was a giant room, crammed with single beds for the kids. Ming was still asleep next to her. -
Nikolai quickly got to school, opening his locker and grabbing the science textbook he needed for class.

Natsuki took out her phone, meaning to text Nik, but realised she didn't have his number. She sighed and sat up, glancing around at the other children.

Nik noticed the guy from all the days before walk up to him.
"Where's the girl?" He asked, and Nikolai just shook his head.
"Not here today." -
There was one around her age, maybe 14 or 15, awake. He was scrolling on his phone, and looked up when he noticed Nat watching him.
'You're the girl everyone was looking for,' he said, not unkindly. -
"Well when will she be back?" The guy asked.
"I dunno, but don't expect her to come back anytime soon." Nikolai answered, shutting his locker and walking to his next class.
