Natsuki checked her jumper pocket, which was on top of her shoes. There were still 5 dollars - enough to get her through the day but not enough for the rest of the week. She nodded to Nik, her stomach hurting from no dinner the previous night.

Nikolai jumped up, getting out of his room to grab something for breakfast. In the end, he decided on an apple and a granola bar for Nat, just grabbing a small pear for himself. He walked back into his room, offering Nat the food he grabbed for her.

Natsuki smiled at Nik gratefully and took the granola bar, unwrapping it and taking a small bite.

“Do you want me to get you lunch for today?” Nikolai asked, taking a bite out of his pear.

Nat shook her head, and when she finished her food she pulled in her shoes and used her fingers to try and comb her tangled hair.k

Nikolai ran out of the room, searching for a comb. He knew they had to have had one, and pretty soon he found one on the kitchen counter and he went back in his room, giving the comb to Nat.

Natsuki grinned at him gratefully and ran the comb through her hair, doing her best to get out all the knots from the previous day. When she was finished she set the comb on her bed and waited for Nik to finish.

Nikolai packed his lunch, and coming back to his room. “You ready to go to the school bus?” He asked.

Nat nodded and picked up her jacket, pulling it around her as she followed him out of the house.

They both walked down the street until they got to the bus stop, and Nikolai sat down on the metal bench.

Nat sat down next to him, leaning on the back of the seat. She glanced around, fiddling with the zip on her jacket.

The bus showed up after a while, and Nikolai held Nats hand as they both went to the crowded bus.

They found two seats towards the back and, still holding Nik's hand, Natsuki sat down at the window seat.
