Natsuki shrugged. "Often" was the wrong word, they didn't do it a lot, just... 1/3 of the time.
-
Nikolai couldn’t help but get angry. He wasn’t angry at Natsuki though, he was mad at the jerks that bullied her.
-
Natsuki noticed his angry expression and she tilted her head at him in confusion.
-
“It’s just that people bully you.” Nikolai said, trying to calm down. “It’s horrible.”
-
Natsuki gave a small smile at his sympathy and shrugged again, trying to show it didn't bother her.
But she knew that wasn't true; it did bother her. -
“Why do they even bully you?” He asked, knowing the answer. “Just because you can’t talk? Because that’s the worst thing I’ve ever heard.”
-
Natsuki fiddled with her hands awkwardly, avoiding looking him in the eye.
-
(Wait lemme add something)
She was sad, yes, but didn't want to show it. She'd already cried in front of Nik twice, and didn't want any more of his pity. -
Nikolai noticed how Nat avoided his eyes, the way she did when she was uncomfortable or hiding something, and he held her hand, squeezing it gently.
-
Nat's shoulders relaxed slightly at Nik's gesture, giving a small smile.
-
“You don’t have to pretend in front of me.” Nikolai said, looking at her. “You know that, right?”
-
Natsuki looked up at him, a look of slight relief on her face. She already knew this, but hearing it come from him comforted her.
In response, she nodded with a small smile. -
Nikolai smiled back. “Good. I don’t want you to think you have to pretend.”
-
Nat relaxed completely and gave him a small hug, leaning her head on his chest and wrapping her arms around him. It seemed like a normal thing to do now, not awkward at all.
-
Nikolai wrapped his arms around her as well, hugging her tightly, but not tight enough that she couldn’t breathe.
