(Yeah sounds good)
-
Anne tilted her head at the girl. 'Why?' she said, her curiosity growing by the minute.
-
"You really wanna know?" Lily asked goose-bumps prickling on her skin.
-
'Yes,' she answered, her eyes twinkling with curiosity.
-
Lily took a deep breath. "A few years ago, I'm not sure how old I was, seven, eight maybe?" she guessed. "Uhm, I was so young and hungry, he lured me in with those cookies, got some sort of drug in them, addiction maybe, so I came, he had more cookies in his truck, I kept on eating them, I was starving, I didn't realise the truck was moving until it stopped, he forced me too work in a factory, for basically the whole day, we were starved with barely anything too eat, let alone only one small cup of water too keep us going each day! I managed too escape, and since then I've been living back on the streets" Lily explained starting too shake a little, remembering the horror of it.
-
Anne blinked several times and didn't say anything. She opened her mouth to say something, then closed it. Then opened it again. 'That's....' she stuttered, not quite sure how to reply.
-
Lily shrugged. "Horrible, I know"
-
'Yeah...' Anne said quietly, fiddling with the bottom of her apron.
-
"Well" Lily said feeling awkward. "I guess I should go then" As she turned round her stomach rumbled. She reached into her pocket, feeling around for the bread. She sighed sadly. It must of fallen out of her pocket when she was running. She swore, unintentionally then gave the bakery-girl an apologetic look.
-
Anne gave a small smile and watched the girl walk out the door. She was still processing what had just happened, and looked slightly bewildered.
-
Lily was too tired too trek back too her home, underneath the town bridge so instead she just sat, slumped outsiders the bakery. She closed her eyes and soon drifted into sleep.
-
Anne waited for her next customer, still trying to process the morning's events. She leaned against the counter, lost in her own thoughts.
-
When Lily next stirred the sky was a lovely-lilac-purple, the air crisp and smooth. She loves the sunset, especially in the Autumn when the cool breeze welcomed her, the wind kissing her toes. She learnt against the wall too steady her and stood up stretching, taking in the smell of fresh bread drifting from the bakery.
-
The sun set and her shift had finally ended, bit so had her excuse not to play with her sister. The little girl ran down the stairs and said, 'You don't have to work anymore! Now you can play with me!' Emma grabbed Anne's hand and tried to pull her upstairs.
'No, I...' Anne argued, trying to think of a good excuse. 'I don't want to. Go play with Bailey.'
Irritated, Emma ran back upstairs. -
As the sky darkened Lily trekked towards her home under the village bridge but she only got a third of the way there until her legs started dragging forcing her too lean against a wall. She wouldn't be able too get back home. She decided her best choice was too return too the slope near the bakery. It was small but it provided a little shelter.
