"I see," Zacharius quietly replies. "I suppose a cup of tea wouldn't hurt...maybe..."
Zacharius cautiously draws near with a nod, accepting the man's offer. Surely, there must be more that he wants from me, though, Aries ponders. -
"Excellent. I have been told I make the best tea this side of the country", I said whilst I began to gather the ingredients and begin my work. "Oh. There should be a small red button under the table where you're sitting. It'll unleash a small friend to help mellow you out.", I stated, not turning around and beginning to heat up the water. Her name is Pepper, and she loves attention."
-
"I appreciate your gesture, but perhaps I am the one who should be offering you something?" they state. "I apologize for startling you, but I became quite curious after seeing you in the clearing. I couldn't help but to notice the reloc on your arm... I was wondering about it. I also wanted to know a bit more about you. See, I am a solider in an army of mercenaries trained to keep this area safe. Surely, you could only imagine the possible threat you could have been seen as, being an outsider and all. I can tell you're not from around here," Zacharius frankly explains, dragging thier finger across the table, gazing off at nothing in particular.
-
"No, No!", I said defensively as I set the kettle down to boil. "I felt instigated by the sudden interaction and wasn't expecting anyone nearby. I was startled and nearly lost composure. As for this." I gestured toward the relic and shrugged. "I don't know. I found it and it attached itself to my arm. Is there something off putting about my appearance?", I asked as I felt the need to wear a hood again.
-
"N-no!" they rush out. "I've just never seen your kind around here before. I simply found it odd. And, I've never been so close to a human, before. And, your eyes," they tapar off, soon catching themself. "Ahem! At any rate..."
-
"You're curious about a 'Human'. I am uncertain I can help you. I've lived here as long as I can remember. Though..." I trailed off, feeling quite distressed. "I don't even remember much of my childhood. Just foster after foster." I was suddenly interrupted by the whistling of the kettle. "Ah. Tea's ready."
-
"Forgive me," Zacharius says, bowing their head. "I have followed you, attacked you, been invited in for tea, and even interrogated you, but I have not introduced myself. My name is Zacharius Ulbritch, but many find favor in calling me 'Aries', 'Zach', or 'Carie'. Our meeting was a bit...strange, but perhaps later on I may say that it's a pleasure to know you."
-
"All is forgiven. I still apologize for attacking you.", I sighed as I poured their tea into a cup, and giving them a cookie. "I look forward to that, Carie. And those who know me call me Revelation. Those closest call me 'Revvie'. I hope to be able to put you on the list of people I can consider an ally. And it's a pleasure to meet you, too."
-
Zacharius shyly takes a nibble from the cookie, then picks up their cup of tea and blows at the steam. "Revelation... The jewel on that relic of yours is quite beautiful. You know, I have an interest in finding such beauties, myself. Is there any chance you could tell me where you found it? Perhaps on my free time, that will be an expiditon I may make."
-
I thought for a moment, rethinking of exactly how long it had been since I had had this relic. "If I could tell you, I would. Unfortunately, I cannot recall on when I first came under acquisition of this relic. Must have been around.. Eight years or so.", I said, lost in thought as I drank my own cup of tea. " You're a treasure hunter, I presume? Have you had any good finds?"
-
"Yes," Aries responds, staring down into their cup of tea. I've found quite a few relics in my time of treasure hunting, most of which have some magic properties of sorts. The only trivial item I've come across in my time of searching was this," they say, pulling out a silver necklace with a yellow and black speckled crystal in the middle. "I came across this strange crystal with the hardness of diamond. So it is a diamond of some sort, I do believe. The golden glimmer of it caught my eye, and I simply had to take it for inspection. Upon studies, however, I found it had no magic properties whatsoever. Rather odd, considering this land is so saturated with magic." After pausing for a moment, Zacharius shakes their head and adds, "Oh, but there was mentioning of this mysterious crystal in an ancient relic book. The crystal was called the Soul Diamond, in some stories of it; it was said to have unusual charm that would be seen and shared only by two souls." Zacharius raises their cup to their mouth to sip some tea, but speaks again before taking a sip. "That is, according to old village fables. The diamond has no real record of magic or mysticism." After taking a sip of tea, Zacharius places their cup down and holds the necklace out to Revelation. "Perhaps you will find some use in it? Trivial jewelry does not fascinate me. What I search for holds deeper potential."
-
I set my cup down and studied it with fascination, admiring its design. "Hm. Perhaps the library may hold records of this necklace. If such a record for this relic exists, perhaps we can solve this mystery together. That is, if you would like to.", I chuckled as I glanced away, a small reddish hue radiating from my cheeks. Thinking quickly, I opened the door remotely as a small, runty kitten walked in and noticed the two of us. They ran down some steps, their little tail raised in curiosity towards the unknown guest. "Aw. Seems she's taken a fascination to you."
-
"Pepper, I assume?" Zacharius smiles, petting the purring kitten before returning to their conversation. "I would enjoy looking deeper into this mystery with you. It's not often I share my passions with others."
-
"Yes. She's been with this establishment since I took over a few weeks ago. I carefully made sure this was a safe, warm place for her to come to. You know how these streets can be at night.", I said as I opened a tin and poured it into a tiny bowl, setting it down for her to munch on. "Ah. Excellent. I look forward to it." I don't know why, but I felt like I had ingested some butterflies. Maybe I was feeling ill, noting I would need medicine.
-
"I haven't been through this side of the travel barrier too often. It's vastly different from my home kingdom, but it certainly has its hidden charm," Zacharius ends with a chuckle, then catching themself and neverously laughing. Darting their eyes up at the clock behind Revelation, they then sigh. "Ah, well. It's getting a bit late. I suppose I should head back to my post. I have training early tomorrow." They get up from the table with a nod. "Thank you again for the tea. How much do I owe you?"
