I chuckled at their gesture, feeling much better than I had since the battle. "I'm not much of a fighter. But give me a bow, and I shall show you what I'm capable of." I gazed into their eyes and smiled. "It's been quite some time since there has been peace. I feel ready for our own future endeavours together. And may I ask something quite personal?", I asked nervously as I regained my composure. "Are you having any regrets for dating someone such as myself?"
-
"Regrets? Not at all! Why, if I regretted dating you, I certainly wouldn't have married you," Aries chuckles.
Just then, Kase walks into the training hall, holding a spear in hand. "There you are, Zach," she sighs in relief before spotting Revelation. Her eyes settle on him for a moment before she dismisses him. "The second wave just finished their morning recon. Your men are ready to go search the outskirts of the mountains."
"I see," Aries replies, regaining their professionalism. "I'll be out momentarily."
"Good. Also," Kase adds, stepping aside from the doorway, "while we were out, we found an orphaned child. I talked to the captain and he's looking into housing her," Kase says.
A white-haired girl stands behind Kase, gazing past her with blood-red eyes. She stares straight into Revelation's eyes with an unnamed aura reaching out from her gaze.
"I have to get going," Kase says. "You," she states, turning to Revelation but not looking directly at him, —can watch the child while Kholer finds where to settle her."
Zacharius glances down at the young teem, feeling a chill up their spine, but Kase snaps them out of their obsevant gaze.
"Well, Lieutenant? Don't keep your men waiting."
"R-right." Aries glances over their shoulder at Revelation. "I'll be back in a while. Have fun babysitting and don't do anything I wouldn't do."
"Zach," Kase starts hesitantly. She pauses and glances back to Revelation before carrying on. "Stay safe." "I always do," Zacharius begins to say, but midway through, Kase kisses their cheek.
Aries stammars. "Di–uh—ha—"
"Go," Kase rushes, pushing Aries out the door. Once Zacharius departs, Kase does the same, shutting the door behind herself. -
I blinked a couple times as to what had occurred before me, feeling concerned and a bit uneasy. Regaining my composure, I knelt down to the small teen and asked a question. "Want to go on a trip? I can take you out for ice cream or something.", I asked as they nodded once, looking away.
A few hours later, I had read them the story of the legendary warrior known as 'Aries', and they were fast asleep. I had set down a bunch of pillows and gently draped a blanket around them, making sure they were comfortable. I was about a minute from passing out myself, but felt pleased that they were more open to talking now. I slowly closed my eyes, feeling the sun's warmth slowly escape from the room. -
Zacharius returns home late at night to find Revelation sleeping comfortably on the couch, but where there is a pillow fort and blanket not too far from him, the space is empty. Aries smile fades and a look of concern grows on their face as they find the teen missing. "Odd." Closing the door gently, Zacharius glances around the dimly-lit room, finding no signs of the young one. Zacharius sets down their weaponry by the door and walks over to the couch, kneeling down and lightly tapping Revelation's shoulder. "Revvie, wake up. Where's the child?"
-
Waking up slowly, I glanced towards the fort to see it was empty of any soul. "They were just in there when I fell asleep. Oh, schieße.", I groaned as I quickly stood up and looked around the house. "Kid? Where are you?" After a ten minute search, I ran back downstairs in a panic. "Did they stop by at all? If not, they're missing without a trace.", I said, visibly shaking.
-
"Calm down," Aries says in a slightly worried tone. "I'm certain she hasn't wandered far. We'd better go search the village to see if anyone else has found her."
Zacharius and Revelation head out searching the village for the young teen. Just as Aries finishes explaining the child's absence to Captain Kholer, Kase walks up behind the couple with the child by her side. "Zacharius," Kase calls. "Thank goodness you're here."
"Uhn?" Aries turns around, finding the child by her side.
"Calipso wandered away from the house while Revelation was sleeping. I found the girl and brought her to my house. You may want to have someone else watch her if he's going to be sleeping on the job."
Bowing her head, Calipso addresses Zacharius with a British accent. "I'm terribly sorry, Mx. Zacharius. I was just a bit bored and tired of his obnoxious snoring," she says, then shooting a cold gaze to Revelation. "It won't happen again." -
I wanted to say something. She was asleep and I passed out shortly after! But I knew if I were to say something, I'd only be making myself sound like the bad guy, so I shut myself up. I felt lost, defeated, and above all else, hated. I silently made my way back inside our home and said nothing else, brewing in my own emotions and self-worth.
-
The next day, Zacharius awakens and heads into the bedroom across from theirs. They find Calipso fast asleep. Going back into the bedroom with Revelation, they gently wake him up. "Good morning, love. I have a few errands to run, today. Mind looking after Calipso? I shouldn't be long."
-
I opened my eyes, still feeling rather bitter about last night's events. I felt groggy, but nodded my head in accordance anyway. I sat up slowly and looked into a mirror, feeling quite disgusted about my appearance, specifically my own ears and the fear and worry they've wrought upon everyone. "I'll do my best.", I sighed.
-
"Ah. Thank you so much, hon. You're a life-saver." Aries kisses Revelation, then they immediately set off.
For a moment Revelation is alone until he blinks and finds Calipso in front of him. "Watching me again, are you? Do try not to fall asleep. I don't have an interest in missing breakfast," she states. "Now then, would you like for me to help you cook? I do know how to cook a bit," Calipso offers. -
Schieße! I nearly felt my heart pop out of my chest when she instantaneously appeared shortly after they left. That all vanished when I heard what they spoke. Such a tongue on this kid! "Teenagers. All the same at the end of the day.", I chuckled and sternly looked at them. "Yesterday was an accident. After I got us ice cream and tucked you in, I am verrrry intrigued on why you vanished, and when. But," I threw on a brown zip up hoodie and stretched, turning back towards them. "What do you wish to assist in cooking?"
-
"I don't really care as long as you feed me. Hmph," Calipso huffs. "Perhaps I'd be better off cooking breakfast myself. Yes," she concludes sharply, "go back to sleep. I haven't a use for you." Tossing her short white bob cut, Calipso storms off down the hall.
-
"Haven't a use.. HAVEN'T A USE?!", I thought as I calmly made my way downstairs and grabbed a box of pancake mix. After getting some water and pouring it into a bowl, I combined the mix and turned on the heat of the burner. "Such a bothersome youth.", I thought amongst myself as I poured some mix into the pan and began to cook it. I waited until it was nice and golden with a bit of a crunchy outer edge, flipping it and doing the same on the other side. After a few minutes, I made enough for the child to eat, setting a plate down and getting nice, clean silverware beside it. "Breakfast is ready!", I called out as I began to wash out the pot and the dishes.
-
"Hm," Calipso snorts. "I prefer waffles, but I suppose this will do." Ditting down at the table, Calipso pokes at her food before raising a brow. " I hear you're different, is that so? A foreigner living among the village? An outcast living off of Mx. Zacharius? Ms. Kase has told me a bit about you. Such a poor thing you must be," Calipso finishes in an apathetic tone, then beginning to eat.
-
I sighed, growing rather irritated due to their behaviour and mannerisms, but keeping my composure. "Yes. I am not originally from here. As a matter of fact, I don't even know where I came from. All I can even remember is that one day, I was taken into an orphanage, never adopted, and ran away before I came of age. I was in a cabin for the last decade where the only thing I had to keep me company were my own thoughts and inventions.", I finished solemnly, looking down to see I nicked my finger with a knife. I grabbed a bandage and sterilized the wound before applying it snugly. "Any other questions or comments you wish to ask or say?"
