(Auburn is a mix of brown and red lol so of course there's going to be brown in there)
Kenna managed to get off the horse with Ander's help. She did not want to get off a tall horse again. She had been positive she was going to slip and then collapse on the ground.
"Sure," she said looking at Crypta. "What kind is it?" -
Oh sjkssm but it's not really fully either))
Robo wagged his tail, sniffing Kenna curiously with his pointy metal ears pricked up. Crypta grinned at Kenna's question, clapping her hands together. "Bapple, of course! Come on in." She opened the door, beaming. The house was incredibly peculiar, glowing tech contrasting the rustic aura of the wooden cottage. -
"Bapple?" Kenna asked as she followed Crypta inside. She kind of liked the way it looked. "I've never heard of that kind. Is it some sort of fruit mix?"
-
"Oh, it's blackberry and apple. It might sound pretty weird, but it's a lot better than you think!" Crypta said cheerfully, fanning the steaming pie set out to cool. Robo sat down and opened his mouth and the music they had heard before began to play, slow and nostalgic. It made you unable to shake the feeling that you must have heard it before, somewhere, a long time ago. Ander plucked the ginger cookies out of Kenna's bag, setting them on the table. "For you. I know you're fond of them."
"Ooh, yes. I'd started to run out," Crypta said, snatching them up quickly. She pulled out chairs for them, moving to put the cookies into her pantry. She turned back to the two, assessing Kenna as if she were a particularly interesting chunk of data she'd just uncovered. "So Kenna, tell me about yourself. How'd you end up around this guy?" -
While Ander gave Crypta the cookies, Kenna wondered what time it was. Probably past midnight. She had too much adrenaline rushing through her blood to be even faintly tired, though.
"Well, we just met tonight," Kenna said. "And it was sort of by accident too." For some reason she didn't feel like she could tell Crypta everything, even though Ander was right there, and Crypta was even a part of the same thing he was. For some reason telling her, well, I was being chased by an assassin for what reason I don't know, and asked Ander for help, then the guy appeared when we were looking at horses, then I almost got eaten by a gigantic bug, and then finally we decided to have some cake and head on over to you for safety while also almost getting killed along the way, wasn't something she felt she could just spit out. -
"We sort of bumped into each other," Ander said with a small smile, knowing that was the understatement of the year. The phrase implied that the two had merely crossed paths, not that Kenna had shown up on his doorstep being chased by a stranger. He didn't feel like explaining to Crypta yet. Adrenaline pounded through his veins, but he knew that once it wore off he'd be wiped out.
Crypta made a small hum of acknowledgement, turning around with a knife and slicing the pie up for them. She dropped the pieces onto cakes, sliding them over. "How interesting. Ya know, Ander doesn't usually bump into people that often. I wish that this was a leisure visit, but I'll bet my left sock that it's not the case. And I really like that sock." -
Kenna hesitated for a moment. "I was b-being chased," she said. Why was she stuttering? "Ander's house was the first one I saw and he thankfully decided to help me." She had a feeling that Crypta was going to insist it wasn't the whole story until she heard the whole story and they'd gradually be getting more and more detailed until she knew the entire thing.
-
"Crypta, no one wants your left sock," Ander replied bluntly, rubbing Robo behind the ears as the dog panted in his lap. "Kenna was in trouble and I offered to help. It's getting late for stories. Can we stay for the night?"
Crypta beamed excitedly, clapping her hands together. "Ooh, yes! Tomorrow I could show you all of my inventions and-and this new thing I just made, the concept came from a nightmare I had about a vacuum cleaner..." As she prattled on and on, Ander raised an eyebrow at Kenna.
"She can get kind of carried away at times, but she's like an older sister to me. She's also one of the few people who still like me, so...try to leave a good impression on her," he said with a small smile. -
Kenna nodded, wondering how lonely his life was. Without the fact that his...occupation was unfortunate, you'd be baffled by the fact that he was so alone.
"Tomorrow I want an explanation as to what's going on," she said softly. She had so many questions that needed answering. Ordinarily, she would have asked for answers right away, but they were both exhausted and needed their rest. -
Ander sighed, his gaze shifting away from Kenna and towards Crypta, who was dancing around with Robo in her arms as she explained the physics behind a vacuum cleaner monster. "The less you know, the better. I'll tell you what you need in order to stay safe, but you've gotten too involved in this already."
-
Kenna nodded. "I understand," she said, ignoring how Ander made it sound as if it was her fault she was in this mess and just passed it off as wording it wrongly.
Being tired of standing, Kenna sat on the couch, grateful for the squishy cushions. -
"Crypta? Where can we sleep?" Ander questioned, crouching down to give Robo attention. The robotic dog's tail wagged excitedly, letting out a computerized yip. Crypta looked up from the thing she was tinkering with, her gloves shining with grease.
"Oh! Do you need one room or two?" Crypta asked, looking between the two curiously. Ander awkwardly looked up from petting Robo.
"Two, Crypta. It's not like that," Ander replied quickly as Robo scampered away to go see Kenna. He jumped onto the couch, nosing his way under her arm with his tail thumping loudly against the cushiony surface.
"Well, I only have one spare room. I hope you don't mind sleeping on the couch, because my room is, er, well it's private," Crypta said with her cheeks colouring slightly. "Not that I have anything to hide, I mean, not like anything BAD to hide. You don't mind the couch though, do you?"
"Of course I don't. Thank you for letting us stay," Ander said with a touch of relief. -
(Oh my goodness Crypta)
Kenna made a face, unsure how she would react to staying in the same room as Ander. She had a feeling that if they were forced to they'd be very passive and a bit avoidant of each other.
However, a light blush creeped onto her face at Crypta's suggestion. She quickly pushed it down, however, telling herself it wasn't appropriate to have reacted in such a way.
Kenna smiled as Robo tucked himself under her arm. She began stroking his metal back, wondering how much he understood compared to the average dog.
She looked up at Crypta. "Yes, thank you so much," she said, truly grateful. She turned her attention to Ander. "So do I have to get up and abandon the dog who's snuggling with me to go to the spare bedroom or do you want the bedroom?" -
Crypta has two braincells, one for pie and the other for inventing))
Ander looked at Robo and Kenna with a slightly quizzical expression. "Well, just make him get up then."
Crypta gasped, putting a hand to her heart dramatically. "Ander, you heathen! Don't you know the rules of having a pet? If they sit with you, you're paralyzed until they choose to leave. It's common knowledge."
Ander sighed, pressing his fingers to his temple. "I guess I don't know the "rules", seeing as I've never really had a pet."
"You have Regal. He's an animal. Surely that counts," Crypta countered.
"Crypta, he doesn't count as a pet. And if he ever did sit on me, he'd probably break my spine." -
(XD)
"I suppose we could make an exception considering your lack of experience," Kenna said with a tired grin on her face. "So what will it be, Ander. Bed or couch?"
