Kenna slid the knives over to Ander's side of the table. They'd be absolutely useless with her. For one, she didn't know how to use them. Two, even if she did know how, she wouldn't.
"I knew you didn't look like an Andy," she commented, looking up at him for a brief moment as she started putting things into her pack one by one. -
Ander reached for the knives, blocking her view as he hid them on himself. He leaned against the table, shrugging his pack over his uninjured shoulder. "I technically am one, but it's not everything. The best lies are truth in part." He held out his hand to her, offering to carry her pack.
-
"I can carry it myself," Kenna said. She struggled a bit to get it on her back, but she managed. "I do trust you enough to not kill me, but I need an explanation for all this as soon as possible, preferably when we're not in any immediate danger like we are now."
-
"Fair enough," Ander conceded, pulling the fridge open. The sad remains of the cake were sitting on a plate and he sighed longingly, closing the fridge again. "Someone's going to be very happy when they find this. Well, let's go then. We don't have a moment to lose."
-
Kenna nodded and said nothing as she waited for Ander to lead the way. She wasn't sure how exactly they would get to his friend's house, by foot or by car. Granted, she didn't see a car in the driveway, but it could be in a garage, or something.
-
Ander, on second though, picked up the cake plate and walked out of the door with it. He stuffed a big piece in his mouth, seeming slightly more at ease as he held the door for her. "Mm, strawberry cream. Would you like some? You won't be able to have nice things like this until I can find a place to put you."
-
"Ooh yes," Kenna said, her mood shifting. She never said no to the prospect of cake. It was her favorite dessert, and one of her top comfort foods. She snatched a piece and gobbled it up quickly. Nothing could beak cake.
-
"Can't let them have something so tasty. It wouldn't be fair," Ander mused, picking up a piece before handing her the plate and the rest of the cake sitting on it. He hopped over the root, helping her over it like last time. The horses could be heard shifting in discomfort in the stable.
-
"Wait we're taking the horses?" Kenna asked. She loved horses, she'd always wanted to ride one. But this wasn't the situation she'd like to learn in, where it was quite literally ride or die. Besides, she didn't even know how she'd get on or off with her condition.
-
"This is the fastest way," Ander explained, opening the door to the stable. He swung the stall doors open and the horses cantered out, Regal staring intimidatingly at Kenna while Storm looked around nervously. "We'll both be riding Regal here. Storm will be carrying a bunch of feed and making a false track."
-
"Are you sure she won't follow us?" Kenna asked. Ander and Regal being familiar to her, she might follow them, especially considering the stressful situation.
-
Ander placed his hand on her muzzle, sliding it up and letting it rest on her head. "She'll be fine. I'll send her out first, and then we'll start travelling. Have you ever ridden before?" he questioned, saddling the bags of feed onto Storm's back. The gray mare stomped her hooves anxiously, letting out a soft whinny.
-
"No," Kenna said as she shook her head. "I don't even know how to get on one of those
-
"I expected as much. Alright then, I'll help you," Ander said patiently, although by the way he moved you could tell he was stressed and in a hurry. He moved a stool over to Regal's side as the white stallion tossed his head in indignation, looking absolutely disgusted with Ander for even moving that dusty old stool over to him.
-
Kenna got onto the stool. She'd den people get on horses before, but she seriously doubted her ability to do it herself. This was going to be complicated. She took her cane and stuck it in her mouth, the length being incredibly inconvenient, but she didn't know what else to do with it. She put her bad leg in the stirrup since she knew there was no way she'd be able to get that leg over Regal's back.
Kenna tried to get her other leg over the white horse's back, but her leg wouldn't go that high. Frustrated, she used her arm to get her leg up there.
And now she was stuck, hanging by the side of the saddle.
