"Apparently," Josiah said. "How long have you been riding for?"
-
"Well, since I was a little girl to be honest.” She responded with a small, nostalgic smile. "My parents would always take me riding every Saturday.”
-
"Where are your parents now?" he asked.
-
"They're, well…" Arianna trailed off, taking a brief moment to look at the sky. Small droplets sat on the edges of her eyes, threatening to fall. A lump had formed itself in her throat. “On an adevnture. A very, very fun adventure."
-
"Oh," Josiah said, thinking he knew what she was meaning. "I shouldn't have brought it up."
-
“It’s okay!” Arianna said quickly, waving her hand and laughing it off. “It makes me happy that they’re having a marvelous time. Their absence is nothing to be sad about since they're doing well.”
-
"But you still miss them," Josiah said.
-
"I-" Arianna’s voice cracked for a second. She had to force down another lump that had forced itself up her throat. “Y-Yes, but they wouldn't want me to feel sad. With that, I will stay strong for them. It is my duty to fulfill the wishes of the people around me. If I didn’t, what would stop them from taking a disliking towards me?”
-
"You can't please everyone," Josiah said. "It's completely impossible
-
“A wise person once told me, impossible has the word possible in it,” Arianna wasn’t too sure of that saying, to be honest. Sure, some things that seemed impossible had been deemed possible by a few brave people, but other times things were just plain impossible.
-
"Either way, you don't have to try and please everyone," he tried to reason with her.
-
“I suppose that’s true as well,” She looked out at the pink and yellow sky. “It’s getting late. We should head back.”
-
(We need ideas for this one)
So the two of them walked back to the house. As Josiah went to bed that night he wondered, who was his father? -
(We could have Josiah’s father go out for an errand and leave Josiah and Arianna behind. But while they bond, they accidentally create a huge mess and the father comes home and just s c r e a m s at Arianna?)
Arianna didn’t sleep that night. All she could think about was the possibility that she and Josiah might become good friends. That was nice, wasn’t it? Finally, a friend in this lonesome life! -
The next morning, Josiah was sleeping in late.
