``Uh, almost 3,`` she said, pulling out her phone and checking the time.
-
"Did you ever find that book you were looking for?" Oliver said, rubbing the spot on his arm where the girl had left crescent-shaped nail marks on his skin.
-
``Yeah, I did,`` she said, tapping the cover of the book with her finger. ``So, we going back to your place? Ooh, do you wanna come over to my house? You could meet my brothers, I'm sure they'd love you.``
-
Oliver panicked briefly. "Uh, yeah! Sure."
-
“Great!” She said with a smile, standing. “May I take your hand?” She asked, looking over to Oliver and waiting for his response.
-
Oliver nodded nervously, before holding out his hand. He felt like a child being lead around, but in a way, there was a much nicer, softer aspect about it. Vivian didn't look down upon him or pity him. She treated him with respect, and he appreciated that.
-
Vivian smiled and took Oliver's hand, helping him stand before grabbing her book and walking off to her place.
-
Oliver felt himself squeezing Vivian's hand much harder than was necessary. He was nervous about how he would get along with children, and how he would stay alive for more than five minutes without being able to see them or what they were doing.
-
Vivian glanced over at Oliver and gently rubbed her thumb against his hand, hoping to ease his nerves a bit. The two soon arrived at Vivian’s house where she grabbed her keys and unlocked the door, walking inside with Oliver in hand. “Boys! I’m home!”
Loud, muffled thuds could be heard as the three boys made their way downstairs, running over to their sister and hugging her all at once. -
Oliver heard the drumming of feet and braced himself, letting out a sigh of relief when he wasn't knocked over. He felt Vivian step back from the impact of the kids who had eagerly come to greet her.
-
``Vee, who's this?`` One of Vivian's brother's asked, pointing at Oliver
``This is Oliver, my new friend,`` she explained to the younger boy. ``He can't see you right now, because he got into a little accident which took away his sight for a bit.``
``So he's special like you?`` One of the other boys said, looking up at their sister.
Vivian cringed slightly, nodding. ``Er, yes. I mean, we're all special in our own ways,`` she said quickly before moving on. ``Now, how about you three go into the living room and I'll get you two snacks?``
The boys nodded and ran off, laughing as they crowded onto the couch. -
Oliver sucked in a breath. "Special?" he said, giving Vivian a look which was clearly suspicious.
-
``Uhm-``
``Vee!`` One of the boys shouted from the living room.
``Coming!`` She replied quickly with an exhale, thankful for an escape from the conversation. She let go of Oliver's hand for a moment and walked over to her brother. -
Oliver felt around for a wall, leaning against it with a sigh of relief. His head was spinning. Did Vivian take him for an idiot? He clearly knew there was something she wasn't telling him. He almost instantly felt guilty. She wasn't obligated to tell him anything. They hardly knew each other.
He ruffled his hair and sighed, biting his cheek and sinking into deep thought. -
Vivian walked back over to Oliver, watching him for a moment. “Oliver? You uhm, you wanna come sit in the living room with me and the boys?”
