(Almost makes it but not quite, she catches him)

(I see.)
Markus kept following this thief, without any thoughts except that she must be captured. He just kept running and running. He didn't even notice the rift until he was right near it, but somehow, instinct told him to jump over it like a rabbit. He didn't make it all the way and gripped the edge of the other side. It was at this point he came to his senses and started to panic a little. He gripped the edge with both hands for dear life and shouted "HELP!" -
Erina grabbed his arms and hauled him onto the ground. She pushed him to the ground. Why on earth had she done that? She sneered at him as she saw who he was. A Royal. Markus, the Crowned Prince himself. She resisted the urge to push him back down into the abyss. He may be worth more than the valuables she had stuffed into her pockets earlier.
Erin bent down over him and pulled out a knife,. "If you value your life enough," she said, "I'd recommend you come with me and don't try to run away. Or else I will kill you." -
Markus looked at the knife and gave an angry look to the thief. He said "It's not enough that you stole some of our stuff, but you have to hold me for ransom now? If I had brought my sword, you'd be dead where you stand. But it appears I have little choice now. Fine, I'll come with you. But don't expect me to be a good house guest."
-
"Well, it wasn't part of my original plan," Erina said, "but it was too good an opportunity to pass up." She grabbed his arm and started dragging him towards the city. "I do have to say I'm impressed, though," she said. "For someone who lounges about on cushioned chairs, being waited on hand and foot all the time, you're very athletic. I was surprised you almost made that jump."
-
(Just so you know minime is trying to get ahold of you)
-
(Thanks for the tip.)
Markus said "Trust me, my athleticism is off the charts. Though mostly its with the lower body. Climbing and lifting anything heavier than my sword are the only few flaws I have." -
Erin chuckled. "You see yourself as nearly flawless."
As they reached the outskirts of the city Erina said, "Take off your jacket and turn it inside out. If you feel comfortable doing it with your pants too, do it. I'd rather not get mugged."
Comparing the city from when it was day to when it was night, one couldn't ignore the vast difference. During the day people did their best to appear happy. They worked hard to survive, even though all their earnings were immediately snatched away by the king. But during the night, that was when all the trouble was. -
Markus took off his jacket and said "I'm not changing my pants unless there's a bathroom somewhere nearby. I hate to mention it but I forgot to wear underwear today." He then put his jacket back on inside out like told.
-
Erin raised her eyebrows. "Okay, then," she said.
As they walked through the city Erina wondered how he saw it from his perspective. There were houses falling apart, holes in rooftops and windows, the whole city was in shambles. People were starving, disease abounded. He probably just saw the whole thing as filth. He'd want to grind it into oblivion just like his father. "Welcome to Heikan," she spat. -
Markus looked around at the surroundings and was a little shocked. He didn't even know what all of this could be. It didn't look like Vauras to him. When the girl gave the welcome message so calmly he was more shocked. He asked "What is this place? It looks horrible."
-
"Oh no, he's an idiot," Erin muttered to himself. "We're your next-door neighbors, and, no thanks to you, this is how we've had to live with your father on the throne."
-
Markus asked "What do you mean? My father's a drunkard but surely he didn't do this. At least not intentionally. How is anyone alive here? I was told my whole life this was a dead zone. To an extent that not even animals would live here."
-
"Well, you must have been lied to, because here we are," Erin said. "Some of the older people here remember that as soon as your father took the throne, he started draining us of everything we produced. His wish is to grind us into little specks of dust. You either die, or grow strong and survive."
After a moment, she stopped inside a rough-looking house. "This is the place," she said, and stepped inside. "I'm back!" she called, her voice reaching all corners of the house.
A man came down the stairs. He had brown hair and grass green eyes. His eyes settled on the stranger first. "Erina what did you do?!" he nearly shouted.
"Keep your voice down," Erin said. "And don't call me Erina."
"I'll call you Erina if I want," he growled. "Stealing is one thing, but kidnapping is too far." -
Markus just kept looking. This made zero sense, why would his father lie? And if he did this then why? What did this town do to him? When he walked inside and looked at the man, he said "That's what I said. And I want that back still."
