"My good Duke, you-you-you have anything to say to my son" the King slurred. The duke said "Yes, as a matter of fact. My boy, have you thought about what you'll do once your father dies and you are king?" Markus said "I'll figure it out." He then thought One thing's for sure. I won't be a drunkard.
A different guard found the Captain leaning against a wall and shook his head. "Drunk again." He said and he picked him up to get him to his room. -
Unfortunately for Erin, then way she had gone into the castle was not the same as the way she could get out. She had to actually be in the room that the gathering was in. Sure, she could pass unnoticed very easily, but with such a multitude there, someone was bound to notice her.
Erin was hiding, looking in through the entrance of the grand and luxurious looking room filled with women in fine gowns and men in dashing suits. She sucked in a breath then went in.
She ran with silent feet to a large marble pillar. and hid behind it. She glanced around, making sure no one had seen her, then started running to the next pillar. As she was running she was looking around making sure no one was paying attention to the misfit in the room when she made eye contact with a blonde man with brownish eyes.
No, eye contact was bad. Very bad, in fact. Erin dashed for the entrance she had used to get into the room before. She needed to find that balcony. Perhaps not that balcony specifically, any balcony would do. -
As Markus began zoning out his father and the Duke, his eyes began to wander until he made eye contact with a woman with black hair. He saw her run and considering she wasn't wearing formalwear, she must have been a thief. Instead of telling his drunk father, he decided to run after this girl and capture her.
-
On her way out she saw the man get up and start making his way towards her. This was not good. Erin ran through the corridors, knowing she was being followed.
Eventually Erin stopped. Oh no, she was lost. This part of the castle wasn't part of the outdated blueprint, and she was having trouble remembering it. She just sped through, looking every which way for a way out.
Then she spotted a balcony a number of yards away and made her way towards it. -
Markus kept following this girl running faster and faster. She didn't seem to know the castle and he used it to his advantage by using rooms to get ahead and try to surprise her.
-
Erin rushed to the edge of the balcony and stepped onto the sturdy railing. She looked down and saw a small roof right underneath. She spotted other variously sized roofs. She could make her escape this way. She only hoped that the one trailing her didn't follow her onto the roofs of the castle.
Erin bent down and swung her legs over the side of the railing and lightly dropped down to the roof beneath her. -
Markus saw the woman jump down the balcony and was hesitant to follow. However, he couldn't just let her get away. He jumped down to the roofs but fell as he landed. He then got up and said "Stop right there, criminal scum."
-
Erin said nothing, only jumped lightly to the next roof. Her movements were fluid and graceful, delicate and quick, but quiet and purposeful. She paused, look down, not seeing any roof downwards. She leapt up to a window sill poking outwards and started going up. He could follow her if he wished, it was his neck.
-
Markus was still in hot pursuit but stopped when the woman climbed the window sill. He tried to climb after her but didn't have the body strength to do so. He decided instead to use one of the skylights to get inside and try and cut the girl off.
-
As Erin was climbing, the Blood Ring fell off of her finger fell right in front of the man with a clink. She looked at him for a moment with her brown eyes, then hauled herself onto the roof. It would be much easier now that she was on top of the castle roof, where she wouldn't have to jump as much, and now she'd be able to figure out which was the best way down.
Erin ran across the edge of the roof, looking down as she did so to make sure she didn't miss anything. Aha, there we go, she thought as she looked down. She started leaping from roof to roof on her way down. -
Markus saw the Blood Ring and grabbed it before he went into the skylight. He ran through different rooms trying to find this thief. He ran into a guard who had just finished putting the Captain to bed. Markus said "There's a thief here. Sound the alarm." and kept running. The guard pulled out his horn and blew into it. Other guards heard it and began blowing theirs to alert everyone
-
Erina had jumped off the lowest roof and was running across the castle lawns when heard the horns. She ran to the gate and started scaling the wall, making sure to keep herself close to the stone bricks so that she'd blend in with the night's shadows better.
Once she got to the top she ran the distance as fast as she could and jumped down the other side, giving a roll to absorb the impact. Then she was running again. -
Markus came out of the castle doors just in time to see the thief scale the gate walls. Or at least see her go over them. He ran to the gates and opened them enough for him to pass. Even though he had the blood ring back, who knows what other important artifacts she had. He tried to follow and not lose her.
-
Erin bolted through the city streets. She didn't have the time to take twists and turns to try and lose her pursuer.
Soon she was out of the city. She was starting to lose energy, but she needed to at least make it over the large gap between the two cities. Lucky for her the gap was closer to Vauras than it was to Heikan
As soon as she saw the rift she increased her speed, her cloak stretching behind her like the wings of a raven. She was going as fast as she possibly could, which was very fast indeed. You needed to go fast in order to make the jump. Only her, one other she knew, and a few of the king's best men could jump that distance.
Erina reached the edge and jumped. She glided through the air and landed on the ground on the other side with a thump. She hadn't landed on her feet, but on her side. She was too drained to pay attention or to care how she landed. At least nothing was broken, or anything. She started putting the few jewels that had spilled out of her pockets back in.
Erin looked across the chasm to see if the man following her had stopped his pursuit. -
(Before I post my response, I must ask. Does my character have the ability to jump across the rift like Erin does or is he supposed to fall into the rift?)
