"Alright then," Miriam said, putting meat on his plate and handing him a bowl of stew. The children all pretended that they weren't watching, although they most certainly were.

Phen carefully balanced the plate and bowl on his good wing, lifting the other so he could use his hand to eat

Ardis finished recalling a story in which one of her fellow soldiers had rode to battle backwards on the horse. She finished off the food and Miriam sent the children outside, who reluctantly did so.
"Alright, what's this all about?" Miriam said, looking from Ardis to Phen. -
Phen looked over at Ardis "shes your friend you tell her

Ardis explained the situation, and Miriam pursed her lips. "I'll try to spread the word if I can. But you should bring your case to the council or somethin'."
Ardis looked concerned. "I'm not sure..." -
"The council might be in on it" Phen said

"That's what I was thinking," Ardis said. "Besides, I'm just a soldier with no real influence. What I need is a meeting with my leader's advisor. They might understand."

Phen hummed quietly "sounds like a good idea.

Later, Miriam packed them lots of food and tied it to the saddle of their horses. "Take care," she said, as the children waved goodbye, the little girl fighting back tears.

Phen waved to the children with his good wing, smiling

Ardis spurred her horse onward, waving back to the children. She dug into her pocket and pulled out a large handful of candy that she saved just for these occasions and threw them to the children. They laughed and scattered about to catch it.

Phen laughed softly at their reactions to the sweats before following her

"I'm not exactly sure where they live, so I'll just try to find us a place to stay," Ardis said, smiling as she watched the children pop the sweets into their mouths.

Ardis rode on her horse in silence.
