The guards led the two to a dark and cramped staircase.
"We're entrusting you two to help us with the transfer." Matyuk explained as they descended. "To make sure the boy doesn't get loose while we shackle him." Once they reached the bottom of the staircase, it took a minute for Tjruna's eyes to adjust to the dark. The dungeon was a long hall with mostly empty cells lining the sides. The only light came from the occasional grate in the ceiling, which Tjruna recognized as the grates in the courtyard. The destination seemed to be a cell at the far end, although Tjruna had yet to see the boy. -
Dorvakin followed and said "You can count on us. But I have a question. How do we know the person who is paying the money will oblige their end of the deal?"
-
The guards stopped abruptly and looked at each other before turning to look at Dorvakin. "That's something for Cristus to worry about." Serlin said. "For you, just make sure the little rat doesn't escape."
They continued to the final cell. The cell was dark, but Tjruna could barely make out the form of a person in the cell. A latern hung on a hook outside the cell. Serlin took the lantern and lit it, revealing the cells occupant: the royal heir.
He looked just the way he was described. Around fifteen, thin, and dressed well. Tjruna could see where the badge had been torn from his shirt. He sat on the ground and was staring down, his black hair dirty an covering his eyes. -
Dorvakin tried not to look at the heir with distress as he clearly looked like a caged animal that hasn't been taken care of. He then asked "When will the trade take place?"
-
"They're on their way now. Let's go." Matyuk said, opening the cell and grabbing the heir roughly by the arm.
"Hey! Let go of me!" The boy protested, but he was no match for the guard. Tjruna pitied him.
"Be on guard." Serlin advised. She handed the lantern to Tjruna and produced a set of shackles from her belt. Tjruna obeyed and took an offensive stance, but not to attack the boy, who she was certain could do her no real harm anyway. She waited as Serlin applied the shackles to the boy's hands and feet, then quickly blew out the lantern. "What the-" Before she could finish, Tjruna hit her over the head with the lantern, knocking her to the ground. -
Dorvakin used the distraction to grab the boy and then put Serlin in place of him. He kept the boy's mouth covered as he did this.
-
As soon as Dorvakin had the boy, Tjruna kicked Matyuk in the chest, knocking him back into the cell. Amatuers. She thought again. Nudging Serlin with her foot, she ensured both guards were inside the cell before slamming the door and locking it. "Come on!" She said, running back towards the staircase.
"Have you got that boy yet?" A voice from the top of the stairs called. "They're here, and Cristus wants you lot on that wagon now." -
Dorvakin heard the voices and whispered "What do we do now?"
-
Tjruna tried to quickly analyze the situation. That courtyard is crawling with guards... She thought. There's only one way to get out of here with the boy... "We go along with it!" She whispered, grabbing the boy's arm. "Play along, kid!" She hissed. She led the two up the staircase to where the other guard stood. She seemed more annoyed than concerned.
"Took you long enough. Just get yerselves loaded, Cristus knows you'll be gone." She gestured towards the exit before heading off to a different part of the building. -
(It's your turn in Apocalypse Sky)
Dorvakin held the kid's arm and said "Come on, let's go." as he walked towards the exit with him and Tjruna. -
(Oops I had completely forgotten)
Tjruna had been correct, the courtyard was flooded with guards everywhere, even on the surrounding wall. In the center sat something new, two carriages. The first carriage had thick bars on the windows and resembled a prison cell more than a carriage. The second carriage was white with silver trim, and was one of the most expensive carriages Tjruna had seen in a long time. Between the two carriages stood four guards who put the Blades to shame. These guards were dressed in fitted light gray with ornate silver helmets, and they stood in a proper formation.
As the three approached the carriages, Tjruna tried to remain calm as to avoid suspicion. The guard closest to the barred carriage nodded at the open carriage door.
"You'll be riding in there with him." -
Dorvakin asked "What? Why? The boy is already incapacitated, why not just leave him in there alone?"
-
The guard scowled and gestured again. Tjruna nodded and climbed in, not wanting to cause a scene.
-
Dorvakin sighed and did as he was told. He still thought this was stupid but now wasn't the time to cause suspicion. Once in, he whispered to Tjruna "What do we do now?"
-
The closest guard shut the door, then returned to his position. "Once we get moving, we'll break out and take the boy with us." Tjruna whispered. "There's no lock on the carriage, so it should be a simple matter if getting away quickly." The heir looked between the two, realization setting in.
"What are you planning to do with me?" He whispered. "Run with the money and throw me back in a cell?"
"Bute your tongue, kid." Tjruna hissed. "If you're quiet we might just get you home." There was a commotion outside, and two of the guards sat themselves atop the carriage.
