Caroline looked out the window of the bus, clutching her umbrella as the rain splashed against the window. She was going to a job; she just hadn’t expected the area to be so stormy. But that was fine. She could work around it.
Checking the address once, and then twice, she walked up to the door of Isaac Valentino’s - her cleint’s - door. Taking a breath, she knocked three times. -
(He's 22 btw sorry)
Isaac's heart felt like it was on the verge of ripping out of his chest as he sat on his couch, enveloped by the warmth of his favorite fleece blanket. There was a certain comfort in its softness so he wrapped it tighter around his torso. He was expecting his first visitor outside of immediate family in a few minutes, and the thought of allowing a complete stranger into his new, safe home was enough to make his stomach do somersaults. There were so many uncertainties attached to having to interact with a new person. What if this "Caroline Reeves" was not who she said she was? What if he was being scammed into another scene ripped straight out of Law and Order: SVU? What if-?
Three knocks sounded, almost seeming to echo throughout his apartment. He looked to the door, reluctant to stand and answer it. This was the moment of truth. He slowly rose from his spot on the couch, peering at the door with unsure eyes. Sighing heavily, Isaac stretched out his hand, hesitantly turning the knob. With one swift motion, he opened the door fully. Surveying the woman in front of him, he nearly let out a breath of relief, but decided to refrain. In sign language, which he had mastered in his time of silence, he said Welcome. Please sit anywhere you'd like.. -
Caroline took a moment to let his face sink into her mind; hazel eyes, lightly tanned skin, a mop of curly hair. He was surely anything but unattractive by conventional standards.
“Good, you already know fluent sign. That’s one less thing for me to worry about.” Caroline said, placing her umbrella neatly by the door and carrying her single duffel bag inside with her. She took off her coat, drizzled in rain, and placed it on her lap as she sat on the couch. “My name is Caroline Reeves, as you’re aware. Do you have any nicknames you’d like me to address you by?” She asked, turning to Isaac. He was clearly a bit distraught, though she couldn’t imagine why. -
The sheer presence of the woman was intimidating to say the least. Her height and complexion were enough to make her appear to be a force to be reckoned with. Isaac blinked a few times, gently closing the front door. He clicked the locks to the doorknob and deadbolt before gingerly stepping over to the living room. Rather than join Caroline on the couch, he sat in the cushiony recliner situated nearby.
No, Isaac is alright. Did you get here okay? Can I get you anything? Isaac hoped he was coming off as a normal human being. This sort of interaction was a big step for him and his recovery. He assumed that if he was courteous and kind enough, there would be no conflict between Caroline and himself. He found that his heart had calmed down considerably but there was no avoiding the fact that he was nervous. Isaac tightly clasped his hands together, resting them in his lap. -
“I’m fine, thank you.” Caroline said flatly, tucking away in her brain that he didn’t mind being called Isaac. That made things easier for her, anyway. “I’ll be staying in your guest room, yes?”
She saw that he seemed a bit calmer now, and noted that dully. He, like many she had met, did not seem to be an avid fan of social interaction. -
Isaac only nodded his head to signify 'yes'. He gestured toward the hallway before signing, Your room is the 2nd door on the right. The door next to yours is the main bathroom. With that being 'said', he stood from his spot, pointing to the kitchen. I'm gonna make some hot cocoa. You can put your stuff in the room if you'd like.
He retreated to the kitchen, tightly furrowing his eyebrows. The woman seemed a bit bland, almost as though she were disinterested. On one hand, Isaac could appreciate this fact as he would not be forced into over-the-top interactions. On the other, he worried that she would not take his needs into consideration. What if she only accepted the job in order to have a place to stay? What if she was scamming him? What if he was in danger?
He inhaled a sharp, shallow breath. It felt silly to be asking himself pointless questions. He was the one who hired her, after all. If he lacked trust in her ability and intentions, he wouldn't have hired her in the first place. Relaxing, he pulled a mug from his cabinet, popping a K-Cup into his Keurig. -
Lmao he has a Keurig what a mood I love him))
Caroline nodded, and took her duffel bag to the guest room she’d be in. She took out the file she had made for Isaac - hospital records from the accident, noted on his personality, his education and jobs and other information that probably shouldn’t have been available to the general public. But wondering about how she got all of this was pointless.
She spent a few minutes scribbling over facts that were incorrect and anything she found useful that she had learned so far. It was important that everything was up-to-date, so she wouldn’t make any mistakes.
After she finished, she walked downstairs. “Thank you for letting me stay on the premises. It makes my job easier, and it will give us more time to work together.” She said as she watched the Keurig spit out cocoa. -
(what single college aged boi SHOULDNT have a Keurig LMAO.
also right quick it's an apartment no upstairs downstairs my fren
here's his education + work experience if u want for your gal: graduated from a high school called H. Whitmer High School. He did 2 years of college at a university called Porter Polytechnic where he was studying engineering. he is taking a break. He worked at a local hardware store from 17 to 19 and then had an internship at a computer manufacturer's called J.J. Gentry.)
Isaac only nodded, waiting until his mug was filled to the brim before pulling it away from the Keurig. He inhaled the scent of the cocoa, smiling gently. He took a large gulp and set the mug onto the counter. Yeah, no problem. I assume my parents sent over the pay information? We assumed 500 a week was okay as you're essentially getting free room and board here. If you think anything else would be better we can talk to them about it.
He secretly hoped that Carolie would take no issue in terms of money. It was bad enough his parents were going to be shelling out $2,000 a month. Sure, they were well off and had plenty in their savings, but that did nothing to assuage his guilt. -
"Honestly it is a bit more then I am used to. But yes, it will do finely." She responded, leaning against the counter to watch Isaac properly. He was just as he researched suggested; a bit anxious, cautious, soft-spoken. A broken little kid; something she had seen time and time again. "With the price offered I had assumed you also needed ASL tutoring, as the 500 is the amount I settle for when the client needs that as well."

(he gon have a kitty. yeahhh a kitty)
Isaac listened intently, nodding every now and again. Before he took his turn to answer, he gulped down the rest of his hot chocolate. Understandable. There was a tutor in the hospital so I worked with him. I'm a fast learner so I picked it up pretty quickly.. The storm outside seemed to be picking up. A burst of wind whistled outside of the window. Thunder and lightning crackled menacingly. Isaac looked to the window, raising his eyebrows.
A high-pitched meow echoed throughout the living room. A small tabby cat sashayed into the kitchen, rubbing her face affectionately against Isaac's leg. The young man reached down to scoop the feline into his arms. He set her on the counter where she plopped down happily, letting out a few purrs. That's my cat Penelope. Sorry, I hope you aren't allergic.. Isaac had adopted Penelope shortly after returning home from the hospital. She gave him company and security, two things he desperately needed being all alone. -
k i t t y
also just realized i used a semicolon twice in one post whoOPS))
Caroline jumped slightly at the sound of the thunder, and glanced out the window for a moment before a new noise interrupted her thoughts.
"No, I am not allergic." She said, scratching Penelope lightly under the chin. This whole experience was very cozy so far. Although she wondered what tomorrow would bring, a moment like this would help her and the client build a good bond. -
it's all g's bby
also sorry for wait time im binging black mirror rn)))))
Isaac pet Penelope's back as he gave Caroline a thumbs-up. He turned away to set his mug in the kitchen sink, rinsing it out with a few bursts of water. Looking to Caroline, he gave a toothy grin, which revealed the gap in his mouth where his right canine should have been. Realizing what he had done, he closed his mouth, but did not allow his grin to fade.
She's a really good cat. Super affectionate, loves everyone. He picked her up once again, cradling her in one hand. She cuddled up against his chest, purring in long, continuous rumbles. He opened the refrigerator, pulling out a plate of cheese and crackers. Settling it on the counter, he closed the refrigerator with his foot.
You can have some if you want. I wish I had more, I just haven't really been able to go food shopping. It's been a bit rough.
