Carson sighed. He didn't want to dance with anyone but Ashley. Carson was about to say something, but then the waitress came. "Bonjour madam and sir. What may I get you to drink this evening?" The waitress asked. "I would like an iced tea." Carson told her.
-
''I'll like some lemonade,'' Ashley said, turning to Carson. ''If it makes you feel better, I'll save you a dance,'' Ashley said, her attempts at making Carson feel better after his anger earlier was failing. I prefer him being flirtatious and funny rather than depressed and serious. Ashley thought as she drummed her fingers on the table.
-
Carson couldn't help but smile at what she said. "How do you think Jake will feel about that?" He blurted, playing with his silver ware. He tried to avoid looking at any part at her for too long because he knew he would start studying her. If he started studying her he would get flirty and if he got flirty he would make a fool of himself. Carson's gaze mostly fell on the roof, silverware, or the window.
-
''Well,'' Ashley said, laughter escaping her lips. ''I'm sure he'll be a bit upset about it but, it's not like we're dating, Jake and I,'' She hummed, thinking about Jake. ''I mean, me dating Jake is, um, impossible,'' Ashley said, a blush dusting her cheeks. ''What's your opinion on him? Jake, I mean,'' Ashley questioned, turning her gaze to Carson.
-
(So we are we still doing that thing where they get kocked in a room together? Or do you think they'll be fine without it now?)
Carson saw her blush and smiled. "I just think a girl like you deserves the best guy she can find." Carson told Ashley, returning his gaze to her eyes. Suddenly all his confidence spilt back into him, forming a charming smile as the Waitress arrived with their drinks. -
Yeah, I think it can still work.)
Ashley laughed at his words but, nodded. ''I honestly think Jake is a great guy,'' Ashley hummed, thinking about the male. ''I'm not sure what he thinks of me though,'' Ashley whispered as the waitress placed her cup of lemonade in front of her. She grabbed herself a straw, placing it in her drink. Ashley moved her straw in a circular, her brows furrowed in thought. Jake is pretty cool, and I'm sure he'll be a great date for the party but, I don't know him too well. I'm not even sure if he's just like Carson, a flirtatious playboy Ashley thought, sipping her lemonade as she stared off into space. -
Carson sighed when his flirt turned around and slapped him. "I'm sure he would." Carson replied when the waitress came and asked them to order. "I'm not hungry. But I'll pay for what she's having." Carson told the waitress, pointing to a pretty girl at another table. He decided that maybe it was best to go back to being a play boy. He didn't want to have to handle an emotional relationship.
-
Ashley eyes turned to the girl he was pointing to. ''I'll just take some bacon cheeseburgers and fries with apple pie,'' Ashley said, eyes still on the other girl. ''To go,'' She added, crossing her legs. Her brother was going to visit and stay overnight to discuss about moving into a slightly bigger house with their mom. ''I should go,'' She said, a bubbling feeling of jealous in her throat. ''It'll be the first time in a long time for me seeing my brother," Ashley added, taking sips of her lemonade. A date, more like a waste of time Ashley thought, clearing her throat as her mind was clear from Jake. All she could think about was the girl he pointed to and how her emotions caused her to feel conflicted.
-
"Okay then." Carson replied. He couldn't gain the courage to look at Ashley as she got ready to leave. You're such a coward. He thought to himself. Yeah. But this cowards going to survive. He thought. Although he didn't believe his own lie. "I'm glad we decided to be friends." He told her, faking a smile.
-
''Yeah,'' Ashley said, hesitating as she turned her gaze to Carson. ''I-I'm glad too,'' She said, clearing her throat. Ashley opened her small bag, taking out at least twenty dollars to pay for the drinks and the meal she ordered. ''Don't worry about paying for the drinks, it's the least I can do,'' Ashley said, biting her bottom lip.
-
Carson diverted his gaze from her. "Thanks." He replied, looking out the window. He knew if he looked at her he would want to pull her back. But he needed to fight that feeling.
-
''No problem, Carson,'' Ashley said, his name rolling of her tongue delicately. With the silence, Ashley took the time to think of what to wear to the party. Shorts and a black shirt would be nice. It was only a matter of time before her meal came and she had to leave. Taking the bag of containers, Ashley looked at Carson. ''Thanks for coming, even if it was short notice, you'll be fine here by yourself or do you want to..'' Ashley said, her words drifting. ''O-or do you want to walk me home?'' Ashley questioned, clearing her throat in embarrassment. Good one Ash She thought in frustration.
-
Carson fidgeted, fighting the urge to say yes. Get up you coward! She actually wants you! He thought. Does She... He questioned, blushing wildly as he stared into space. "Here you are ma'am. Have a nice day." The waitress told Ashley, handing her the take out. Carson stood up and put on his jacket, paying for the other girls meal like he said he would. "You're a big girl. You'll be fine walking on your own." He forced himself to say, faking a chuckle as he left the restaurant.
-
''Thank you,'' Ashley whispered to the waitress, as she stood from her place. She listened intently to his words, as her brows furrowed. ''Yeah, you're right,'' She whispered, long after he was gone. Ashley sent a text to her brother, for him to pick her up on his way home. Frustrated, Ashley walked her way home, down two blocks to meet her brother on the corner. Damn, I'm trying, Carson! Big girl, whatever, Carson Ashley thought, her brows furrowed.
-
Carson's breathing got heavier and heavier as he walked down the sidewalk. He kicked at a stop sign on his way home and tears broke out of his eyes as pain seared in his foot. He couldn't bear walking away from Ashley... It was just as much pain as watching her be with someone else. Carson wiped the tears off his face and swore under his breath with anger at himself.
