Gerald came out of the hay and saw the shopkeeper go away and saw what the girl did. He walked over to her and said "Um, thanks for covering for me."
-
(I was eating. Sorry.)
"No problem." She replied, eating the apple. "That shop owner has been stealing fruit from the orphanage. I got blamed. So I figured I'd give him a slight payback." She shrugged. She sat on a bench nearby and started reading a book. -
Gerald sat down next to the girl and said "I see. Well I still appreciate you helping me. I wouldn't have to steal from the guy if I had a place to live. But it's the only way I figures out how to survive."
-
"Why did you not go to the orphanage?" Elizabeth asked, throwing out the apple core.
-
Gerald said "I tried that. They wouldn't take me in. I don't know why, something about me being a thief."
-
"Oh. Okay." Elizabeth shrugged. "Want to see something cool?" She asked, jumping up and twirling around in excitement.
-
Gerald said "Sure."
-
Elizabeth grabbed his arm and ran up the orphanage hill. She ran behind the orphanage and stopped, causeing the boy she was dragging to almost fall. "Sorry." She told him as she grabbed some stools and put them against the wall. "Guess what's behind this wall?" She asked as she climbed up the stools and sat on top of the wall.
-
Gerald sarcastically said "Let me guess, the orphanage?"
-
(No, there was a wall separating the Orphanage grounds from another property.)
-
"Nope. The royal gardens!" Elizabeth told him, jumping down the other side.
-
(Sorry I misread it.)
"The royal gardens, well hat are you doing climbing over the wall? We could get in trouble." said Gerald as he followed her over the wall. -
"As if you don't already get in trouble." She laughed, walking over to the rose bushes. She took a towel out of her pocket, wrapped it around her arm, and with the protection dug through the rose bush. She took out a quill and note book and started sketching the Lilly's in the garden.
-
Gerald followed and said "Yeah but this time I have nowhere to hide. And the guards are faster than some lousy shopkeeper."
-
"The only guard here is a gardener." Elizabeth told him. "Oh, and the Queen over there." She added, looking up. "We better go." She sighed, stashing her book and grabbing a rope for them to climb over. "You first?" She asked.
