Seth took a deep breath, grinning wide at the fresh scent of blood. He took a moment to savor the aroma, closing his eyes and opening them to reveal glowing red orbs, veins surrounding the iris. Her hands didn't bother him, she was weaker than him, being a human and all. He could hardly contain the bloodlust that filled his being and leaned forward to lick the fluid, pulling back before he could sink his teeth in. "Your cousin? That weak kid? It was almost too easy to take him. But you. You've so willing given us a few more months of survival. So how about I reunite you with your family? You can join us for dinner." Seth chuckled and began to half drag her to the holding area.
"I can cover himself from the sun, mostly anyway." Kayle watched Isaac, observing him rather closely. The blonde was thinking, trying to help find an escape route that would work for both of them. The brunette knew he was little, and Hunters tended to underestimate him. He wasn't as strong as his brother, but he could run faster for sure. The small vampire perked up at the question, grinning proudly. "Faster than your motor vehicles and my big brother." If the kid had a tail, it would wag. -
(It'd be about a day's walk/bike ride for Isaac, making it a lot less for Kayle? Maybe a few hours?)
Imogen tensed and returned to struggling as he leaned in, terrified of the possibility of him biting her before she could get away. Her eyes were shut too tight to notice the glowing of his own. The feeling of his lips and then tongue against her neck sent chills throughout her, and not in a good way. The vampire was inhumanly cold, a realization that disgusted her. As soon as he pulled away, she let out a small breath that she hadn't realized she was holding. Then he started for the basement, pulling her along forcefully. There was no point in screaming for help, no one would hear her. So she made herself as heavy as she could and tried to swallow her regret.
"I suppose you... I guess you can carry me, if you really want to? I'll give you directions." He stood back up and stretched, trying to hide how awkward being dependent made him feel. He knew the vampire wouldn't want to stop for a day, but he also knew that the two would be much better off with a solid plan and enough money to get by on for a little while. And then, if they had to, they could take a car. It was still strange for him to be on peaceful terms with a vampire, let alone create an escape plan with one. But it wasn't bad. In fact... it was kind of great. -
(Oh yeah. Running as fast as most cars, it would only take hours)
The older could practically smell the fear in the redhead's blood after he'd had his taste. He could feel her shudder, hear her heartrate pick up again once she began to take in fresh oxygen. These past two Hunters weren't threatening towards him or his brother. Neither had the courage to fight once they were staring into the face of something inhuman. Seth shook his head and rolled his eyes when the girl tried to make herself a rock. No matter how hard she tried, he still had far greater strength and continued to pull her along, taking her down the steps slowly. "I'm sure your cousin will be thrilled to see you."
But once he'd reached the dark room, Seth's eyes narrowed, immediately sensing that something was off.
Kayle was dissatified that Isaac wouldn't let him just take the lead and go as far as he wanted, but still crouched down to allow the other onto his back. He pulled his hood up in case the sun were to break the horizon before they reached wherever they were headed. His brother would've told him not to trust the human at all, would say it's a trap, but his own thoughts and instinct wanted to help Isaac get away. Not to mention the young vampire felt a warmth that he hadn't experienced in, well, ever. Kayle wanted to spend more time around Isaac, despite the fact that he was a Hunter and human. -
Her heart continued to race nervously, her deep, terrified breaths becoming shallower with each step he forced her to take. By the time they reached the basement she was close to a combination of sobbing and screaming, but she managed to hold it in. Imogen should've been proud of herself for that feat, but instead, pressed herself up against the wall as he left the last step. She put herself in this vulnerable position voluntarily, longing for a tangible surface. Of course, her captor could see in the pitch black room, but there was no way she'd find her way without guidance, something she definitely didn't want from him. Except for the silence of the room, she couldn't tell that anything was wrong. "Isaac?" she choked out, hoping for some response.
He climbed onto his companion's back, feeling incredibly strange the entire time. Of course, it was at first from the awkwardness of being carried, something the tall boy hadn't experienced in years. However, as soon as he was actually on Kayle's back, he discovered something entirely unexpected. Being a Hunter, he knew that vampires were cold to the touch, a telltale hint that was impossible to hide. He didn't expect the sensation, though, even through layers of clothing, to feel like sitting on a block of ice. Isaac swallowed his discomfort and gave the vampire's arm a grateful squeeze, then suggested the direction in which they headed. -
Seth looked around in the dark, breathing deeply, slowly. He could smell the other Hunter, the boy wasn't there anymore, his scent having faded over time. His younger brother's scent too. Faded. The brunette his a light switch, a dim light like the rest giving vision to the girl still in his grasp. Cage wide open, as he expected. "No..." He muttered, anger flaring as he released an inhuman growl or roaring sound that shook the room. Seth turned on Imogen, pressing her against the wall for the second time that night. "You little whore! This was your plan all along, wasn't it?! Distract me with your amateur hunting ability while your cousin escaped and kidnapped my brother! You hunt us like animals and take everything we have like the weak wastes of life you are! You don't ever bother to understand that we have societies of our own, too. Our own families and friends! But you just slaughter us, as if our lives hold no purpose!"
Kayle smiled and secured the taller male on his back by holding under his knees. He felt his insides warm up again from having the blonde Hunter pressed against his back and especially from the squeeze to his arm. "Sorry I'm cold--" He cut off, ears twitching at the sound that came from the distant mansion, and bolted in the direction that Isaac pointed him in. "That was my brother... He knows we're gone. Keep telling me where to go. The sooner and further we're gone, the better." -
Her head hit the wall as he pushed her back, and for a moment she was worried it'd start bleeding and send him into a bloodthirsty state once again. She struggled against his grip, her arms trying to push into him and away from the wall. She didn't fully understand what he'd said until a few seconds later, by which point she'd already screamed and sworn at him multiple times. Her rapid breaths seeming to indicate her anger, she shouted back. "You think I was trying to distract you? You knew I was here! What'd you do with him? Where is he?" She seemed to calm down for a second, maybe two, then found more to fuel her rage. "Or is he already f---ing dead?" she spat, her tone sharper than his fangs.
"You're fine," he replied, noticing when the vampire stopped to listen. Before he could respond, they were off. Isaac brought his attention down to Kayle's shoulders, trying to avoid the feeling air rushing into his face as they traveled. He was amazed at how quickly his companion could run, especially with him on his back. He subconsciously tightened his grip around the other, despite his body temperature. -
"I knew you were here because you were distracting me on purpose so your partner could make his escape. You f---ing imbecile! And quiet your screaming; I already know you're faking. All you do is take, all of you Hunters. First our nest, now my brother? How about you lot leave us be?!" Seth began to shake from his 'boiling blood', wanting nothing more than to tear the girl apart in front of him. But he refrained, looking to push her for more information on where his captive could've gone with Kayle. "As much as I want to bleed you dry, I need you, with whatever pathetic skills you possess, to show me where your cousin went. He ain't dead, but he will be if he's harmed a single hair on my baby brother's head."
The young vampire lightly bit his lower lip with his top two teeth as he ran, enjoying the wind that blew through his hair while he ran. He let out a silent gasp as he felt the other's arms wrap tighter around him. So warm... Kayle thought to himself, still feeling as if his heart would come to life at any time. But he knew it wouldn't and that it never would or could, and the thought saddened him knowing that he and Isaac could never have a relationship of any kind. It was impossible for them to remain friends. -
Imogen stared up at him, her glare cold with hatred. Did this murderer seriously expect her to help him? There was no way that was happening. "No, let go of me. It's probably a trap. He probably kidnapped Isaac, and this is just you trying to finish off the job. I said let go of me!" The Hunter raged against the vampire, knowing she'd be better off as soon as she was away from this place and on the trail to find her cousin again. Of course, she knew where he'd try to lead his kidnapper, but there was no way she'd ever lead a vampire there herself.
This was so, so wrong. A vampire and a Hunter working together? Every part of his Hunting heritage told him to formulate a plan to kill the creature as soon as he had his trust. But the part of him that had been trapped for the past few weeks suggested that maybe this vampire wasn't so bad after all. At least he'd found the better of the two. Isaac tried to ignore the fact that this probably wouldn't last, and instead focused on the directions he'd need to give. -
"If Kayle had planned anything like that, I'd have known about it and wouldn't be here with your pathetic ass now. You don't get it, do you? As much as I love my brother, he's soft. Really soft. It's the most difficult thing in the world to feed him because he refuses to eat. Do you really think we like living this way?!" Seth bared his fangs and pressed her harder against the wall to cease her struggling. He couldn't control the years of self-loathing and hatred that had built up any longer. "You humans are the worst creatures. You kill us when we do no wrong and assume every monster is the same. Foolish girl. If I truly wanted to, I'd force you to suffer this fate."
Kayle didn't know where they were going, and he knew he shouldn't trust Isaac, but followed his directions regardless. He wanted to make up for these past few weeks, and once the blonde was safe, he'd return to his brother. And they would leave, get as far away from the Hunters as possible. The young vampire knew in his mind that he would never see Isaac again, so he would treasure every moment spent with his human companion. -
"And you think my cousin would hurt him? I knew I'd have to come after him because he refuses to kill. He didn't want to come after either of you, but you f---ing took advantage of him! He wouldn't hurt anyone, not even something like you!" With her arms held in place at the wrist, one of his knees pressed up between her thighs to keep her from kicking him, and their anger growing by the second, she knew there was no way she could actually win this. Imogen tried to take a few deep breaths, then let out an angry sigh. "Look. Neither of us are going to come to an agreement on this. We both want our family back. Let go of me, please. Maybe we can... work something out, or something."
The human gave his directions with gradual ease, growing more comfortable as they traveled together. However, he couldn't get the elder vampire out of his mind. Were they actually related? Isaac couldn't see how such a cruel creature could be related to such a gentle one. He knew that as soon as they were safe, his companion would leave him once again. He couldn't have that; he needed him around. So he began to formulate a plan to keep Kayle with him. -
"You Hunters are all manipulative b------s. And if he was so afraid, he shouldn't have come into our territory. He should've turned around and went home." The brunette made a low growl, realizing just how close they were now. He slowly released his grip, pulling away from her but keeping his eyes locked on her. She really wasn't a bright girl, trusting a vampire to help her, but still if it meant getting his brother back... "Fine. But once we find them, you don't bother us ever again. We'll take our leave, but if you follow us, both of you will be dinner. Now, what do you prupose we do?"
"How far are we going?" He asked curiously, having to look around constantly to make sure he was still going the right away. His ears were also alert to listen for other Hunters that may be out and about. Kayle didn't want to become anyone's trophy so soon after helping Isaac escape. His imagination exploded with all the things that Seth would do if anything happened to him. The small brunette shook it off and focused on the task at hand. "I haven't gone beyond that town in so long.." -
"As if we'd want to," she muttered, stepping away from the vampire. She knew better than to turn her back on him, even if they were... working together. Then again, it was unlikely that he'd try to hurt her in any way. He'd had his chance before, and hadn't taken it. The Hunter definitely couldn't place any trust in her new partner, though he would definitely have valuable information. As long as he didn't lie. She reached back and touched the back of her head, seeming to relax a bit when she couldn't feel any blood on her fingers. Imogen walked over to the stairs and headed up, looking back at him expectantly. "You should grab anything you think you'll need for a few weeks, at most. I think I know where Isaac would lead them to."
"I know there aren't any other Hunters in the area, if that's what you're worried about. I checked beforehand." He glanced around, able to pick up on some parts of the dark area. Isaac gave the vampire a gentle, comforting squeeze. "Besides, if there were, and they tried anything? I'd tell them you're mine, not theirs. If we stick to the forest areas, we should be able to avoid other people and still make it there." -
Seth scoffed at the distrusting look on the girl's face and rolled his eyes. He didn't trust her much either, but if she knew where her cousin, Isaac, took his only blood relative, then he'd stick with her until the two were found. He watched as the redhead seemed to be checking herself for any damage. "I wouldn't split your head open unless I intended to actually kill you. That much blood.. I would have to eat." He crossed and followed her up the stairs. "All I need is clothing and...food." The brunette didn't know what he was going to do about his meals, maybe convince the girl to let him get a nibble of her now and then.
Kayle felt his stomach begin to flutter when Isaac squeezed around him. Humans were so warm, not always the kindest, but their bodies, pumping blood, were always warm. "I wasn't..really afraid of Hunters. Well maybe a little. I just don't want to know what happens when I die." The young vampire stuttered and became rather flustered at what Isaac said. "Y-Yours..? Oh..." He tried not to think of it that way, but the boy couldn't help it. He could feel that part of him wanting to belong to this human. "T-To the forest.. Yes. This should, actually, make the trip faster, cutting through the woods that is." -
"Stop saying stuff like that. It's weird." She tried to hide her discomfort as they headed upstairs. The vampire wasn't really proving himself to be anything other than a monster by constantly hinting at murdering her. In fact, if he continued to talk about it, she'd have no problem ending their agreement. The way in which he talked about it was almost perverse, as if he found some sort pleasure in asserting his superiority. Imogen would make sure to keep her stake available at all times.
Isaac could feel victorious joy blossoming in his chest. Not only did the vampire trust him, but he seemed to be a bit flustered by his comments as well. Maybe he was being too optimistic, but he could definitely see some sort of relationship between the two of them. He'd try to hold onto the idea as long as possible, not wanting to face the truth.
"Then we'll make sure you don't have to find out, okay? Let's just keep heading west," he said, trying to ignore the noise from the town in the distance. He then leaned down and whispered a soft thanks in Kayle's ear. -
"Oh please, I would act exactly the same with anyone else. I'm a monster, aren't I? Whether or not I act like one, you'd still see me as one. I don't know how Kayle manages to be so nice when he receives ridicule for being undead. Too bad I don't have that same innocence. We'd probably both be dead if I did though." Seth made a face of discomfort, now wondering what kind of life he and Kayle would live had the older not become so cruel to the outside world.
"Find out what now?" Kayle asked, rather confused. He no longer knew what they were talking about, just that Isaac kept doing things that made the butterflies stir in his belly and his heart soar. He wanted to run away with the blonde and be at his side forever. The brunette was pulled from his thoughts when he felt warm breath against his ear and bit down on his lower lip to keep from making a sound.
