Purebloods mingled on the campus lawns, much more excited about seeing friends than going back to school. Despite the bitter, tingling sensation of the setting sun, which was finally visible through the overcast, they were in no hurry to head to their dorms. Discussions contained winter break activities, many of which were bragged about in friendly rivalries, and plans to make the second semester more bearable. No one discussed the new students, even though they were on everyone's minds. Each vampire knew that their beloved academy was about to change dramatically. For the first time, outsiders were being let in. While the Purebloods considered themselves above the humans, they were all very aware that their friendship would be earned competitively, more as a reason to gloat than anything else.
However, Nora was not concerned with the humans, the Purebloods, or of their antics. She was focused on preparing to start work once again. The researchers had a shorter break, but it still caused the same dislike of starting the semester as it did in the actual students. -
Alexander glanced at the entrance of the school, with a few other students near by, there was about thirty of them there and he felt like the odd man out, but right now he was excited. This was a new experience and well right now he was ready to be the first one to go in. He walked up slowly to the steps, hearing a few guys cheer him on and the others staying quiet. He then heard the others start to follow him. They all were to report to the nurses office and get their physicals and even their blood drawn. He sighed and smiled warmly, this was going to be interesting.
-
A few of the Purebloods watched as their new classmates walked by, clearly able to smell them, even through the crowd. One or two glared at them, no longer trying to hide their disgust. One shouted something offensive and tasteless.
Upstairs, Nora rearranged some books on her shelves. Of course, she never took anything with her on vacations; the school was her home at this point. Still, rearranging made things seem different and new. From the bathroom, her roommate, Willow, called to her. "Think we can open the window yet?"
"Uh... We should probably wait a while longer, just to be certain," she replied, hearing the other girl's annoyed groan. She didn't like it either, but both knew that only Pureblood vampires could take the sunlight. For them, it was tingly. For Nora and Willow, it felt as if they were burning to death. -
Alexander saw a few of the other students panick a bit at the sight of some of the other students, but he ignored them. He walked off to the nurses office while the others waited behind him, since he was the first to come in he'd be the first to get his physical and his blood drawn. He glanced around the room carefully, but he wasn't sure what to do. The nurse ran him through the physical and finally he was sat down for his blood to he drawn. He wasn't squeamish or anything, so he sat quietly as the needle went in. He waited for it to be over and his puncture wound to be covered as he walked out of the office, meaning more would go in. He leaned against one of the walls and waited.
-
Outside, they could smell as the blood was being drawn. Perhaps having them around did have its perks. And because the smell of warm, fresh blood spread across the campus, Nora and Willow picked up on it, too. But where one enjoyed it, the other scrunched up her nose in disgust.
"Nora, why don't you like it? I think it'll help everyone," said her roommate, who had been turned thirty years prior. She remembered what it was like to be human. The elder shook her head.
"You know the trouble they'll cause. Besides, they're a nuisance most of the time." -
After everyone was done they all decided to either explore or go to the dorms they were assigned to. Alex was one of the one that wanted to explore a bit. He walked around the halls, looking at everything curiously. He didn't interact with any of the other students, not that he wanted to bother them in their daily lives, but he found himself coming out into the court yard, were you could see the dorms and the other buildings around the school. He grinned a bit, excited about all the new things he knew were in store.
-
Eventually, Purebloods started to head into their dorms, occasionally stopping to chat with a human. One, an older male, paused to talk to another. "So, outsider... Alex," he said, pausing to read the boy's name tag, "you know, I was one of the ones who wanted you here... Glad it worked out. You know, my floor's having a party tomorrow night, wanna come? I mean, it'll be a great way for you to actually meet people around here. The good people. There are definitely ones who don't want humans here. Unlike me. So yeah, if you wanna make it around here, I'll see you tomorrow night."
He didn't want to aid the human's budding social life within Pemvair. He just knew how great it was to have someone to provide the snacks, if anyone needed them. Which, they would. Most Purebloods had never drank from a human, making the concept seem quite novel and exhilarating. -
When Alex was stopped by one of the students he was slightly confused, since he was never really invited to parties or ever wanted to go to one. But the student made it sound tempting to go, but it was again something he wasn't very comfortable with. "Sorry uh...I'm not much of a party kinda guy." He smiled a bit. "But I thank you for the invite and I'll think about it." He waved goodbye to the other student, hoping he wouldn't follow him anymore. He walked up to the dorm he was suppose to be at and walked in slowly, accepting the new area. He oppted not to have a roommate which was a slight plus because he could actually concentrate on work.
-
"Hey, can you take this to the trash downstairs?" Willow called, holding the tiny bag from the bathroom garbage. "Please?"
"Sure," she sighed as she took it. She really hoped that the Purebloods had put down the blackout curtains in the common area, Nora didn't want to spend her first week back in the infirmary with a huge burn. She took the stairs instead of the elevator, as she was much faster, and expected everyone else to travel just as quickly. She went down two flights, then two more, then one last set. However, as she came out of the stairway door, which happened to be right next to the elevator doors, she ran into someone. Taking a step back, she realized that she'd bumped into a... he was human. She froze, trying to hide her disgust.
"You're... you're a human." -
He stumbled a bit when someone ran into him as he was looking at the architecture of the room. He looked up quickly and blinked lightly. "I'm sorry that I got in you way." That's when he noticed she was looking at him in disgust, the words coming from her mouth were also filled with disgust, but it was just a hint of it. He frowned lightly. "Well I'm sorry humans bother you so much." He felt his mood change a bit, which he rarely got angry. He jabbed the up button on the elevator repeatedly, until it opened one of the door and he slipped in.
-
"You shouldn't be here," she told him just before the doors closed, then walked away. As she was tossing the bag in one of the larger trash bins, a Pureblood stopped her.
"Wow, you really don't like the humans, do you? Figured you'd be all for them being here, considering you used to be one," she said, a teasing smirk on her lips.
"That's exactly why they shouldn't be here," Nora replied before heading back to the stairs. The optimistic part of her wanted the semester to end with the same amount of humans as it'd started with, but the logical part of her knew that was unlikely. -
Alex finally got to his room and smalled the door behind him, not wanting to deal with anyone at the moment. He sat on his bed and glanced at his stuff that was already brought to his room. He should be unpacking, but he wasn't in the mood, every since that run in with the girl he was infuriated. He flopped back onto his bed and sighed, looking around for his schedule, which he hoped none of the classes he had were with that girl.
